ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Quoting Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Curt Miller after the Falcons' 75-54 win over Utah State University Saturday night...
"I feel good with where this team is at right now; I felt like we had a really good weekend. We came to New Mexico with one goal, and that wasn't in the win-loss column. It was to leave New Mexico as a better team, and I feel that we have accomplished that."
"We gained a lot of confidence in playing well for as long as we did against New Mexico (in Friday night's game), and I think we saw that in the first half against Utah State, which is a very good team with good ball pressure. We really took it to them in the first half, and I was really proud. I think this team is really starting to grow, and we are leaving New Mexico as a better team."
"I have ultimate respect for Utah State and their coach (Raegan Pebley). They are a great defensive team, and I thought their pressure would really bother us. We handled it in the first half, but to Utah State's credit, they came after us hard in the second half, and did some things to our ball-screens. I give them a lot of credit for their adjustments; they bothered us in the second half. But, when you're up (by more than) 20 in the first half, it gives you some comfort. You can play a little more loose."
"I really liked our balance tonight; we got contributions from a lot of people. Even though I never felt totally comfortable with the way we were playing in the second half, we didn't give up that big run which might have given our opponent confidence that they could come back and win. Utah State kept coming at us, but they never had that big run to make us feel like the game was in jeopardy."
"It is very, very hard to coach against a former colleague and such a good friend (Pebley). She has done wonderful things for that program, and I am really proud. That game featured two young teams that I think will get better and better over the course of the next few years."
