BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Quoting Bowling Green State University head coach Curt Miller and Falcon players after the team's 80-60 win over Bucknell Thursday night at Anderson Arena...
BGSU HEAD COACH Curt Miller
"I'm happy with the win. We divide our season up into segments, and this completes our first segment. We're proud -- with only two home games in the 11-game non-conference schedule -- that we survived a very tough road schedule and were able to finish non-league play at 7-4."
"In tonight's game, I was really pleased with the way we jumped on Bucknell. We got contributions from multiple people, and I thought we looked very good at times."
"I was a little disappointed with the end, when we let a 30-point game turn into a 20-point game. But, we got everyone into the game. And, one of our main goals was to get everyone to score, and we accomplished that, which is always fun for the team."
(On the Falcons' inside game)
"We felt like we had some advantages in posting up. All night long, we tried different post-up options. A lot of the things we tried offensively worked offensively."
(On BG's defending Bucknell guard Lindsey Hollobaugh)
"She is tremendous in transition. She gets a lot of her points just by playing the game hard, and running the break hard. You want to limit her touches in transition, first and foremost. Lindsey Hollobaugh is a great player, so she is going to get some points. But, if you can make her work for her points, then you have the ability to contain her. Even though she got 15 points, I was pleased with our effort on her."
(On Carin Horne, who had 16 points off the bench)
"Carin is a tremendous player. She has battled illness and injuries throughout the season so far, but she has always been an explosive offensive player. (Tonight's performance) is what I see day-in and day-out at practice. If we can get that kind of offensive performance from Carin every game, we're going to be very tough to beat. She is capable of being the best offensive player, not just on the team, but in our whole league. She is that talented offensively."
(How do you feel as you head into MAC play?)
"I'm confident. We are on a four-game win streak. We've won five of our last six, and our only loss in that stretch is to New Mexico, who cracked the top-25 in one national poll this week. That's a pretty good six-game stretch. I've told many people this: We still have the ability to get better, but this team is learning how to win. If you can learn how to win 'ugly' when you aren't playing your best, then when things start to click, I will feel very good about this team."
"We are very happy about winning seven non-conference games again this year, with a 7-4 record for the third consecutive year. That's the best stretch since the late 80's, when Fran Voll was the coach here, and is the best non-conference win total of any MAC team over the last three years. Now, we want to add on to that, and have similar success in conference play."
SOPHOMORE Carin Horne
(On her play off the bench [14 first-half points, including 12 in just over three minutes])
"I just tried to go out and do what I could do. We were kind of struggling at the beginning of the game, and I just tried to give us a little bit of a spark off the bench."
SOPHOMORE Liz Honegger
(On her 10-rebound performance, which included six offensive rebounds)
"I got lucky a few times on the offensive glass, where I just was in the right place at the right time. But, the coaches really emphasized crashing the boards hard, and that's what we tried to do tonight."
FRESHMAN Kate Achter
"We knew that Bucknell would want to come out and run. They have some pretty good athletes, and we felt that we could match up a little better if we could spread the floor. And, we were pretty successful in doing that tonight."
(On the MAC schedule)
"We have a very tough schedule coming up ... we need to pull together, stay together and play hard like we have been, and I think we'll be fine."
