PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team saw a late comeback fall just short in a 77-74 loss to Lehigh University Saturday afternoon. Here are some post-game quotes from Falcon head coach Curt Miller...
"I was proud of our team in the last five minutes. But, I felt like that was the first time we had played hard all night. I was very disappointed. Credit goes to Lehigh; I thought they played a very, very good game offensively, and took advantage of every mistake we made defensively. That's what Lehigh does. They're not going to beat you with their athleticism; they're going to outwork you, and they are going to execute. Today, their execution was very good, and I was disappointed in our defensive performance."
"(Lehigh's) Jessica DePalo is a fantastic player, and was our concentration. You would think that we had no idea she was the Patriot League's preseason player of the year. She is as advertised. Unfortunately, we did not get it done against her, and we tried multiple people on her."
"Hats off to Lehigh, as they were tremendous offensively. But, we have to be able to do a better job on defense. Almost 54 percent from the field means that they are just picking apart your defense."
(On Carin Horne's play during BG's late-game run)
"Carin got some points off of her defense, which is always key. And, she's not afraid to take big shots. Even at the end of the game, when we had to make a shot to try to send it to overtime, we knew Carin would not be afraid to take that shot. Win or lose, she is not afraid to take those shots. Unfortunately, it (her final shot) came up just short today."
"We are a young, young team, and I have to keep reminding myself of that. Our four kids in double figures today were three sophomores and a freshman. But, (Lehigh) was a game where I thought we might have superior talent, but we would need to come out and earn the victory. We were outworked and outexecuted today."
