Falcons Travel to Ann Arbor
BGSU will play the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's first-place team, Michigan, this weekend in a two-game series at Yost Ice Arena (Feb. 20-21). Each game is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. The Wolverines enter the weekend ranked #3 in the USA Today/American Hockey poll and #4 in the USCHO.com poll.
BGSU vs. Michigan
The Falcons trail the all-time series, 30-61-3. BGSU is 14-35-0 at Yost Ice Arena. The last six games between the two teams have been decided by two goals or less with UM holding a 4-1-1 advantage in those games. The last time these two teams met was in the first-round of the CCHA Playoffs in Ann Arbor last season, with BGSU scoring two goals in the final 1:09, but still dropping a 4-3 decision.
Michigan Wolverines
UM took over first place in the CCHA standings last weekend with a two-game sweep of former first-place resident Miami. The Wolverines have won 11 of their last 12 and have only one tie all season. UM is coached by Red Berenson who is in his 20th season at the helm with over 500 coaching wins. FR T.J. Hensick leads the Wolverines with 36 points and 26 assists, while SO Brandon Kaleniecki leads the team with 14 goals. SO Al Montoya has a 2.21 gaa. and .916 save pct. in 28 games played.
Close Shaves...
Out of the 31 games played this season by BGSU, 23 contests have been decided by two goals or less. The Falcons have eight ties, are 3-7 in one-goal games, and 3-2 in two-goal games.
Falcons Working Overtime This Season
BGSU built upon its school record for ties in a season with its eighth tie on Feb. 14 vs. LSSU (0-0 tie). The game also marked the 10th overtime game that the Falcons have played in this year, one away from the school record of 11 set in the 1991-92 season.
BGSU/Lakers Skate to 0-0 Draw...Again
The 0-0 tie on Feb. 14 was the second this season vs. Lake Superior (Nov. 15) and just the sixth all-time in CCHA history. The Falcons were also involved in a scoreless tie vs. Michigan State (March 1, 1997).
Sigalet Leading the Nation
JR Jordan Sigalet leads the nation with 924 saves (29.8 pg) and with 1,004 shots faced, while he is second with 1847:57 minutes played. Sigalet is now 163 saves away from the school record set by Tyler Masters in 2000-01 for saves in a season (1,087) with five regular season games remaining.
"Siggy" Career Leader at BGSU, as well
JR Jordan Sigalet currently is the career leader at BGSU with his .914 save pct., and is second with his 2.97 goals-against-average in 64 career games (3,713:25) minutes). His 1,968 career saves rank him eighth all-time at BGSU.
