OXFORD, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) -
BGSU HEAD COACH Curt Miller
"The seniors were great tonight. Lindsay (Austin) really harassed Nicki Motto, and put pressure on them. Even when we were in our zone presses, she was very aggressive and active with her hands, and set the school steals record. I was very pleased with our seniors tonight."
"We talked about this in the lockerroom: you never know when you will have an opportunity to play for first place. Those seniors signed at BGSU (not long after) BG went to the NIT. And, they haven't been over .500 since. I told the freshmen that we have got to play our guts out. Our seniors are playing their guts out, because you just never know when you will have the opportunity to play for first place, and our seniors were terrific tonight."
"The biggest key, written in huge letters on the board (in the lockerroom), was points in the paint. Miami has lost three out of four games when they have had fewer than 30 points in the paint. We had to defend them in the paint. Our goal was to keep them under 30 points, they got 42, and that was the difference. Their three post players are so strong, and so, so talented. That's their bread and butter. As good as their guard play has been over the years, their bread and butter are their post players, and they pound it inside consistently. It was a big of a learning experience, as to how tough and physical their kids are."
"Maria (Fantanarosa) is a very good coach, and switches up defenses more than most coaches in this league. We knew we were going to see man-to-man, zone, traps ... we were playing well in the second half, and I think she went to that (traps on the wings) to slow us down and try to change momentum. After the first three possessions, I felt like we handled that well, and it didn't bother us. We just didn't always stay aggressive."
"I was very pleased with some of the things we did offensively tonight. We played better tonight than we did against Buffalo, but you always leave the arena happier after a win. We played better than we played at Eastern Michigan. I'm glad we came back and played a spirited game. We played a gritty, solid game against what I think is the best team in the league. We have to take positives from this, and rebound from this. I'm pleased with the play, and it is a big learning experience for us. We will give it a gung-ho try on Saturday against Western Michigan on Alumnae Day. We will have a lot of former Falcon champions coming to watch us play, and I'm excited to get back home and showcase our team. We're fighting for our lives for playoff position, and we're going to be a factor in this league."
