Bowling Green, Ohio - Former BGSU player Rob Blake, who received the most fan votes in the Western Conference with 104,809, has been elected to the starting lineup for the 2004 NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, February 8 at 1:00pm Mountain Time in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Blake has been voted to his fourth NHL All-Star Game starting berth in the past five seasons. He joins goaltender Marty Turco (Dallas), defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom (Detroit), wingers Bill Guerin (Dallas) and Todd Bertuzzi (Vancouver), and center Mike Modano (Dallas) as the starters for the Western Conference All-Stars.
The veteran defenseman is having one of his best seasons as a professional and recently was written about by Associated Press reporter John Marshall.
Another former Falcon who is definitely in the spotlight this week is 1980 Olympian Ken Morrow. Before he became a four-time Stanley Cup winner with the N.Y. Islanders, and after he was an All-American at Bowling Green, Morrow was a member of the 1980 "Miracle On Ice" team that defeated Russia in the Olympics and went on to win the gold medal.
Mark Wells, a teammate of Morrow's at BGSU and another standout Falcon, was also on Team U.S.A. that shocked the world. This weekend marks the debut of the movie "Miracle", which is about the 1980 Olympic squad.
Morrow was recently interviewed by Wright Thompson of the Kansas City Star about his experience on the 1980 Olympic Team and the soon-to-be released movie "Miracle".
