BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Jody Johnson is the Bowling Green State University Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Johnson, a senior on the BGSU softball team, helped the Falcons to a 4-1 record in tournament action last weekend.
Johnson, a native of LaGrange, Ohio (Keystone H.S.), went 2-0 with an earned-run average of 0.00 as the Falcons participated in the Buzz Classic, hosted by Georgia Tech, over the weekend. The Falcons went 4-0 in pool play, earning the #1 seed for bracket play in the 25-team invite.
Johnson picked up a win over North Carolina State, allowing just four hits and no earned runs in a 6-2 win Friday (March 19). Then, she allowed only two hits in another complete-game win, this time a 12-0 shutout vs. Georgia State the next day. She walked two batters and struck out eight in that game.
On the weekend, Johnson allowed opponents to bat only .140 against her. For her efforts, she was named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday (March 22).
On the year, Johnson leads the team in wins, with a 5-2 record, and has a 2.00 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .225 against her this season.
Johnson, a marketing major, maintains a cumulative grade-point average of 3.34.
The Falcons are 10-11 on the year, heading into a Thursday (March 25) doubleheader against nationally-ranked Michigan. BGSU will face the 10th-ranked Wolverines in a pair of games in Ann Arbor, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
