Falcons Capture Beaver Invitational Title

BLUFFTON, Ohio - With a season-best 337 points the BGSU track and field team captured the Beaver Invitational Saturday afternoon, hosted by Bluffton College. Ferris State placed second with 136 points, followed by Albion College (58.5), Bluffton College (51.50) and Tiffin (48.5) to round out the top five.
In the sprint and hurdle events, several Falcons had impressive showings. Senior Alicia Taylor placed first in the 100-meters with a time of 12.07. She also captured the 100-meter hurdle event with a 14.75.
Junior Valerie Holland continued the dominance in the sprints with a second-place finish in the 100-meters with a 12.09, and a first-place finish in the 200-meters with a time of 25.47.
The Orange and Brown took home three of the top four finishes in the 400-meters with help by Amber Walker, Ashley Tukes and Betsy Grove. Walker placed first with a 1:00.00, followed by a second-place finish by Tukes (1:00.33) and fourth-place mark by Grove (1:01.47).
Freshman Kim Settle and junior Melissa Krueger were the other two Falcons to bring home track event crowns. Settle won the 800-meters with a time of 2:20.51, while Krueger won the 1,500-meters with a season-best 4:49.19.
The Falcons as a team won six field events on Saturday afternoon. Erica Wilson captured both the high jump (1.60 meters) and long jump (3.61 meters).
Veronica Vance captured the triple jump event with a mark of 11.35 meters. She also placed second in the long jump with a distance of 3.58 meters.
Kerri McClung made her return to the shot put and began right where she left off by capturing first-place with a mark of 13.28 meters.
Liz Honegger, a freshman on the women's basketball team, made her track and field season-debut, and passed with flying colors. She won the discuss throw with a mark of 41.03 meters, as well as placed second in the shot put with a distance of 12.43 meters.
Andi Bunko completed the Falcon sweep in the field events with a first-place mark of 35.10 meters in the javelin throw.
The Falcons return to action from April 7-10 when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in the Sea Ray Relays.
