Falcons Look Impressive At EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University track and field team traveled to Ypsilanti, Michigan, Saturday afternoon to compete in a dual meet with the Eagles of Eastern Michigan. Though no team scores were kept, the Falcons captured first-place in 13 of the 17 events.
In the sprints and hurdles Alicia Taylor took home top honors in both the 200-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles with times of 23.84 and 14.08, respectively. The mark in the 200 was the second fastest in BGSU history. Junior Valerie Holland won the 100-meter dash with an 11.98. She also placed second in the 200-meters with a 24.00.
The middle distance runners were not to be out done. Amber Walker won the 400-meters with a 57.91, while Melissa Krueger captured the 1,500-meters with a 4:36.46. With a new personal-best time of 1:03.40, Heather Gustin took home the 400-meter hurdles.
The freshman tandem of Erica Wilson and Veronica Vance continued their dominating performances in the jumps. Wilson won the high jump with a mark of 1.63 meters, while Vance won the long jump with a mark of 10.71 meters.
BGSU nearly swept the entire throws competition with victories by Kerri McClung, Paris Bussey and Andi Bunko. McClung threw 13.76 meters in the shot put, Bussey had a personal-best 43.34 meters in the discus and Bunko also put together a personal-best in the javelin with a mark of 39.06.
Up next for BG is a trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where they will be competing in the Len Paddock Invitational on May 8, in a tune-up before the MAC Championships on May 13-15.
