BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The NCAA office has released the final softball statistics for the 2004 season, and a pair of Bowling Green State University freshmen were listed among the national leaders. Jeanine Baca was on the list of the toughest players to strikeout, while Emmy Ramsey ranked among the nation's leaders in sacrifice hits per game.

Baca, a native of La Habra, Calif. (Sonora HS), ranked eighth in the country on the 'Toughest to Strikeout' list. Baca whiffed only eight times in a school-record 207 at-bats in her initial campaign, an average of one strikeout per 25.9 at-bats. The Falcon centerfielder and leadoff hitter had five homers on the year.
Baca was the top freshman in the nation on that NCAA list, and also was first among Mid-American Conference players.

The Falcons of head coach Leigh Ross-Shaw finished the 2004 campaign with an overall record of 34-30. BGSU posted a MAC ledger of 13-11 to finish third in the West Division. The Brown and Orange, seeded sixth for the league tournament, lost the opening game, then posted five consecutive wins. BG knocked off each of the top-four seeds, in order, to capture the first MAC Tournament title in school history and advance to NCAA Regional play.
