First and Ten
This meeting with the Owls is the first of a two-game series with Temple. The two teams will square off next year in Bowling Green.
This is the seventh meeting between the Owls and the Falcons. BGSU won the last matchup, 42-23, in 2001. Temple won the last game in Philadelphia, 31-14, in 2000 (played at Franklin field). BGSU leads the series, 4-2.
BGSU is 7-1 since the 2001 season following a loss, including a 3-1 mark on the road.
Last year, BGSU won the MAC West title and fell to Miami in the MAC Championship game. The Falcons defeated Northwestern, 28-24, in the Motor City Bowl and were ranked #23 in both major polls at the end of the season.
BGSU is in a stretch where they open the season with four of five games on the road.
The Falcons have scored 16 non-offensive points in the first three games. Last year, BGSU did not score one point on defense or via returns.
Senior Keon Newson was named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week for the third time in his career after the Oklahoma game and junior Charles Sharon was honored as the division's Special Teams honoree after the SEMO game for the second time in his career.
BGSU's 7-3 record against IA non-conference teams (7-2 against teams from BCS-affiliated schools) since 2001 is the best among the 14 MAC schools during that time frame.
This will be the third straight year that BGSU has played a game in an NFL facility. BGSU played at Raymond James Stadium (South Florida) in 2002, and at Ford Field (Motor City Bowl) in 2003. BGSU will host Wisconsin at Cleveland Browns Stadium in 2006.
The Falcons are the top team in the MAC converting on 53.5% of its third down opportunities.
Junior B.J. Lane is the top kick returner in the MAC averaging 24 yards per effort in three games this season. Junior Charles Sharon is rated third in the conference in punt returns averaging 20.6 yards per effort with one TD. The last time BGSU returned a kickoff for a TD came in the last meeting against Temple when Janssen Patton returned an onside kick 42-yards for a score.
