Bowling Green, Ohio - Former Falcon and seven-time NHL All-Star Rob Blake will return to Bowling Green on Friday, Jan. 28, when BGSU hands out commemorative Rob Blake bobblehead dolls to the first 700 fans, courtesy of Huntington Bank. BGSU hosts Notre Dame that night with a 7:05 p.m. faceoff and tickets are still available at 1-800-BGSU-Ticket.
Blake played at BGSU from 1987-90 before going on to win the Norris Trophy in 1998 for the NHL's Best Defenseman, the Stanley Cup in 2001 with the Colorado Avalanche, and a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2002 Olympics. Blake owns the BGSU record for goals in a season by a defenseman (23, 1989-90) and finished with 104 points in 131 career games (39g, 65a).
Joining Blake that night will be former Falcon teammate and BGSU's all-time scoring leader, Nelson Emerson. Emerson played 12 seasons in the NHL and currently serves as a coaches aide with the Los Angeles Kings. The two were teammates at Bowling Green from 1987-90 and helped the Falcons to a 81-48-7 overall record, one Central Collegiate Hockey Association tournament championship and three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Blake and Emerson were also teammates of BGSU Head Coach Scott Paluch and were integral in the $750,000 addition to the BGSU Ice Arena, which houses an alumni lounge, coaches offices, a conference room, a weight room, and an athletic training room.
An autograph session with Blake and Emerson will take place from 6-6:45 p.m. in the South end of the BGSU Ice Arena.
