Bowling Green, Ohio - Of the 142 Division I hockey players, representing 38 teams, that have advanced to the preliminary (second) round of voting for the 2005 Hobey Baker Award, four are from Bowling Green. As of Jan. 24, SR Jordan Sigalet was seventh, SO Jonathan Sigalet was 31st, SO James Unger was 33rd, and FR Jonathan Matsumoto was 108th.
Preliminary Voting runs through Sunday, March 6, during which time you may cast your vote once per day for your first-, second- and third-place choices for the Hobey Baker Award. The fans' tally will be considered along with votes from each of the 58 Division I head coaches to determine the 10 finalists for this year's award.
The 2005 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced April 8 in Columbus, Ohio, the day before the championship game at the NCAA Frozen Four. The Hobey Baker Memorial Award is celebrating its 25th season of recognizing strength of character and excellent play in college hockey.
BGSU is just one of seven schools to have multiple winners of the Hobey Baker Award. Current Washington Capitals General Manager George McPhee captured the award in just its second year in exsistence in 1982, while current Columbus Blue Jacket Brian Holzinger won the award in 1995. Only three schools (Minnesota-4, Minnesota-Duluth-4, Harvard-3) have had three or more Hobey Baker Award winners.
