FALCONS TAKE ON CHIPPEWAS
The Falcons begin a two-game road trip that has them playing at Central Michigan on Wednesday and Ohio on Saturday.
BGSU and CMU are scheduled to play a home and home series in the regular season for the first time since the 1996-97 season. The teams did meet twice two seasons ago, once in Mt. Pleasant and once at the MAC Tournament.
The Falcons hold a 33-26 lead in the series and defeated the Chippewas, 86-61 last season at home. BGSU is 3-1 in Rose Arena since 1998. BG, 4-3, and W. Michigan, 7-3, are the only league schools with winning records away from home this year.
The Falcons are in their eighth season under head coach Dan Dakich. Dakich is second all-time at BGSU in winning percentage (.576) and fifth all-time in wins with a 127-94 record. He and his family were honored by the Red Cross prior to the NIU game for raising $1,777 for victims of the recent tsunami disaster overseas.
With a 76-57 MAC record, he ranks 11th all-time in conference game winning percentage and is 11th in MAC history in overall winning percentage. He also is one of just 19 MAC coaches to ever win 125 games or more at his institution and his 76 league wins are the 15th most in the history of the conference.
The Falcons lead the MAC and are ranked 10th in the country shooting 50.4% from the field this season. BGSU also ranks ninth in the nation and leads the league in assists at 18.2 per game. The Falcons are second in blocked shots at 3.87 per game. The Falcons have taken a league-low 242 free throw attempts (16.1 per game).
Senior Josh Almanson leads the MAC averaging 17.9 points on 61.8% (12th in the nation) shooting from the field. He also is ninth in the league in blocked shots (1.0). He had his first career MAC double/double with 16 points and 11 rebounds against Ball State. He is the ninth most improved player in the country in scoring average adding 9.9 points per game to his total from a year ago. He recently went over the 900-point mark in his career and is looking to be the 34th player in BGSU history to score 1,000 points or more in a career.
Senior John Reimold is sixth in the MAC averaging 16.8 points, and ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (54.5%) and first in three-point field goal percentage (48.9%). His three-point field goal percentage was fourth nationally last week. He has scored 1,497 points as a collegian (1,095 at BGSU and 402 at Loyola-Maryland as a freshman). He also ranks 10th in the league in blocked shots with 12.
Junior Germain Fitch is coming off a career-night against Toledo. He had a career-high 12 points and eight rebounds and scored the game-winning basket with 28 seconds left in the game. He made six of seven field goal attempts in the game, also career-bests.
