KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Quoting Bowling Green State University women's basketball head coach Curt Miller, after the Falcons' 80-67 win at Western Michigan University Saturday afternoon (Jan. 8) ...
"The bench was great today. We got into some foul trouble, and (Kelly) Kapferer really came up big. When she hit a couple threes, it gave her confidence. She had a big breakaway steal and layup, and really gave us some good minutes. That's her best game of the year, and that's what fifth-year seniors can do."
"We also got good performances off the bench from Amber (Flynn) and Jill (Lause), and another unsung hero for us was Tene Lewis. She gave us minutes at the two-guard, which she hasn't done for most of the year. She really defended and changed the tempo. I couldn't be more pleased with our bench."
(On the play of Kate Achter)
"Kate is just getting better and better. She will be frustrated with her shooting performance today, but she made a big shot for us. She kept the engine going. When you have a team of scorers, Kate is opportunistic. She gets into the lane, and creates plays for other people. But, the thing that she has to do is run the show. I got on her at halftime about her defense, and I was very pleased with her in the second half."
(On Wednesday's [Jan. 12] home game vs. Eastern Michigan)
"I'm going to try to savor this one for a few minutes first. We're 2-0, and we're 2-0 on the road, in the MAC. That's what our non-conference schedule was meant to do: Give us confidence that we could gut out wins on the road. So, rather than worry about that monster up in Ypsilanti, let me enjoy this win for a few minutes. Despite Western's injuries, they are a very, very talented team. It was so hot in here down the stretch, I thought I was going to black out, no pun intended. We play them again in two weeks, as part of a brutal January schedule, and I know they will be ready for us."
