The Series With OSU
The Falcons hold an overall series advantage of 90-59-5 over the Bucks, despite OSU winning the last nine meetings. BGSU's last victory over the Buckeyes came back on October 26, 2001, when they downed OSU 5-3 inside the Ice Arena. The last BGSU win in Columbus came back on November 18, 2000.
BGSU Offense Continues To Shine With The Help Of Special Teams
The BGSU offense is on a tear to begin this season. The Falcons have scored eight goals in the opening two contests this season, a feat that has not been matched since the 1997-98 season when BGSU recorded nine goals in the first two games. Already this season BGSU has had 14 different players record points. They are led by sophomore Jonathan Matsumoto (3-1--4), freshman Kevin Schmidt (1-2--3) and Alex Foster (0-3--3). The BGSU power play is also clicking very well. They have converted on 7-of-25 (.280) power play attempts this season, while holding their opponents at a 2-for-15 (.133) clip.
Matsumoto Records His First Career Hat Trick
Jonathan Matsumoto recorded his first career hat trick last Saturday night (Oct. 15) versus Boston College. The sophomore forward recorded one goal in the first period and two power-play goals in the second. In his brief Falcon career Matsumoto has recorded 21 goals (12 power play), 15 assists and 36 points in 38 career games.
Falcons Reach Two Million Fans
The BGSU Ice Arena surpassed the two million mark over the weekend for all-time attendance. The Ice Arena, which opened up back in 1967, has seen 2,002,361 fans walk through its doors in 36-plus years of Falcon hockey. The Falcons cracked the one million mark in the home opener back in the 1988-89 versus Ohio State back on October 22, 1987. In 36-plus seasons BGSU has averaged 2,943 fans per game at home and own an all-time record of 443-197-40 (.682) inside the Ice Arena.
Schmidt Has Strong Opening Weekend
Freshman Kevin Schmidt did not take long to make himself welcome inside the Ice Arena. In his first career start he recorded his first collegiate goal versus Merrimack College. The following night he posted two helpers versus Boston College.
