CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - A pair of Bowling Green State University student-athletes have swept the Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards. Terrill Mayberry (football) earns the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, while Ali Shingler (soccer) is the Female honoree, the league office announced Thursday (Oct. 20).
Shingler, a fifth-year senior goalkeeper, helped the Falcons to a pair of shutout wins last weekend, increasing BGSU's current winning streak to a school-record five matches. A native of Grove City, Ohio (Grove City HS), she had six saves in Friday's 2-0 win over Kent State. On Sunday, Shingler played over 77 minutes of shutout ball to earn the win in a 4-0 triumph over Buffalo.
Shingler now has a personal shutout streak of 351:06, setting a new school record. She has not allowed a goal at home in exactly 447 minutes, since the first half of the Eastern Illinois match way back on Sept. 11. This season, Shingler has 10 wins, 77 saves and a goals-against average of 1.43 to date. She has lowered that GAA by over half a goal (from 2.00) over the last five matches.

Shingler has a perfect 4.00 grade-point average, with a dual major of biology and applied health science.
Mayberry, a native of Farmington Hills, Mich. (Harrison HS), had a hand in all three Buffalo turnovers as the Falcons downed the Bulls, 27-7, Saturday afternoon. The free safety forced a second-quarter fumble, and picked off UB passes in both the third and fourth quarters. Both interceptions came on drives that could have allowed Buffalo to tie the game, as the Falcons led by just a 14-7 count at the time.
In the road win, Mayberry had eight tackles and a pass deflection. The senior has helped BGSU's defense allow only six touchdown passes, the fewest of any MAC team this season. The Falcons are 4-2 overall, and lead the MAC East Division with a 3-0 league record.
For his performance, Mayberry was named the MAC East's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. He became the third consecutive Falcon to win that award.
Mayberry has a 3.57 GPA as a sport enterprise major.
The football Falcons return home for the next two games, beginning with Saturday's (Oct. 22) matchup with Western Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Doyt L. Perry Stadium.
The women's soccer team closes the regular season with three road matches. BGSU has clinched a MAC Tournament berth, and the Falcons are in the running for a top-four finish and a home date in the league tourney's quarterfinal round on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a voting group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
