BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University hockey team held its annual "Falcon Face-Off' on Saturday afternoon at the BGSU Ice Arena, with Team White prevailing over Team Orange, 3-2. Freshman Kevin Schmidt slammed home the eventual game-winner late in the second-half to secure the victory for Team White.
After a scoreless opening half team White got on the scoreboard first after Don Morrison captured the speed skating title over fellow White teammate freshman Brandon Svendsen.
Team Orange won the shootout crown with the help of goals from Mike Falk, Justin Liut and Mike Nesdill to knot the score at 1-1. Junior Rich Meloche scored the lone shootout goal for team White.
Tim Maxwell game White a 2-1 lead on a breakaway goal, assisted by Schmidt. Following Schmidt's goal to give White a 3-1 advantage, sophomore Ben Geelan scored a nifty goal moments later on a pass from Mike Nesdill for the final 3-2 score.
The annual scrimmage concludes the Falcon's preseason. Up next for BGSU is a pair of non-conference match-ups next weekend (Oct. 14-15). On Friday the Falcons will play host to Merrimack College, before hosting Boston College the following night. Both contests are slated to begin at 7:05.
