BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University football team improved to 2-0 in Mid-American Conference play, assuming sole possession of first place in the MAC's East Division, with a 38-14 win over visiting Ohio University Saturday night. Some notes and numbers from the game...
BGSU held Ohio to just 68 yards rushing and 239 yards of total offense in the win ... the Falcons now have won 19 consecutive games when holding the opposition below 100 yards on the ground.
Coming into the game, BG opponents had scored on all 18 previous trips into the red zone ... but, the Falcons allowed Ohio to score just once on four possessions inside the BGSU 20-yard line.
By contrast, the BGSU offense rolled up a total of 573 yards ... the Falcons are now 19-2 over the last five years when accumulating 500 or more yards of total offense.

After Ohio recovered a kickoff with 45 seconds left in the half, BG senior cornerback Jelani Jordan picked off a pass at the two-yard line ... Jordan later added an interception in the fourth quarter to give him two straight games with two picks ... he now has four this season and eight in his career.
Overall in the first half, BGSU held Ohio to five first downs and 117
total yards, including 53 on the ground.
Senior Nate Fry attempted the Falcons' first field goal of the season from 27 yards, which was wide right ... it was Fry's first career field-goal attempt ... the Findlay, Ohio native later connected on his first career field goal with 7:00 remaining in the fourth quarter, a 27-yard effort.
Junior Omar Jacobs tied Brian McClure for the BGSU career record for TD passes (63) in the second quarter, on the strangest of plays ... Jacobs completed a pass to Charles Sharon, who fumbled the ball after being hit by Ohio's Dion Byrum at the Bobcat two-yard line ... the ball went into the end zone and was recovered by the Falcons' Steve Sanders.
According to the NCAA Statisticians Manual (Section 13, Article 2) Jacobs is credited with a 16-yard TD pass, Sharon is credited with a reception and 16 yards, and Sanders is credited with a receiving TD on the play.
Jacobs later broke the Falcon career record, with his 64th career TD toss on a 41-yard strike to Sharon in the third quarter.
Jacobs also tied McClure's BGSU record for 300-yard passing games, with the 12th such effort of his career.
Sharon had 10 receptions for a career-high total of 185 yards ... for the senior, the 100-yard receiving game was the 10th of his career, which ties former BG greats Robert Redd and Stan Hunter for the most century-mark receiving efforts in school history.
Sharon also became the first Falcon in school history to surpass the 3,000-yard mark in receiving yards ... he now has 3,036 in his career.
Senior P.J. Pope scored on a one-yard run, his second rushing TD of the season and 31st of his career ... it also was Pope's 39th career TD overall.
Senior B.J. Lane had a career-high 24-yard reception ... Lane had two touchdowns on the ground, and now has four rushing TDs this season and eight in his career.
Freshman Marques Parks had a career-high effort in receiving yards and receptions, with two catches for a total of 35 yards.
Senior Mike Thaler had his first sack of the season and sixth of his career.
Jamien Johnson tied his career high with nine tackles, while Pete Winovich matched his career best (set last week against Temple) with four stops.
