The Falcons and Golden Flashes renew the most played rivalry for both school's. Last year, the two teams did not play for the first time in 58 years. The Falcons hold a 51-15-6 lead in the series and have won the last four meetings. BGSU won 42-33 in Bowling Green in 2003 and captured a 46-14 win on their last visit to Dix Stadium in 2002. The teams have played for the Anniversary Award since 1985.
The Anniversary Award is a traveling award that goes to the winner of the football game between Bowling Green and Kent State. Established in 1985 by the respective alumni departments at BGSU and KSU, the Anniversary Award commemorates the founding of BGSU and KSU in the year 1910.
The Falcons are in a four-way tie for first in the MAC East Division. BGSU, Miami, Ohio and Akron are all 3-2.
Saturday's game--produced by ESPN Regional Television--is scheduled to air on FSN Ohio (RSN, Ohio), Comcast Local (RSN, Michigan), Comcast Sports Net (RSN, Chicago) and Adelphia 13 (Cable, Buffalo).
BGSU's 41-16 record since 2001 is the best among all MAC schools over that time span. BGSU also is the only MAC team with a winning record (10-5) vs. Division I-A non-conference opponents.
Junior All-American quarterback Omar Jacobs, who is the NCAA active leader in total offense (299.6), passing yards per game (280.2) and passing efficiency (165.5), missed the majority of the last two games after suffering an injury to his non-throwing shoulder. He will be evaluated each day, undergo rehabilitation and will start if healthy. He leads the MAC in total offense (307.9), passing (299.6) and TD passes (20).
Redshirt freshman Anthony Turner made his first career start at quarterback against Akron. This season, he has completed 42 of 69 passes for 415 yards and a TD. He led Dayton's Chaminade-Julienne to the Ohio Division II State Championship in 2002.
Senior wide receiver Charles Sharon needs four receptions to become BGSU's all-time career leader in receptions with 216 surpassing former teammate Cole Magner who finished with 215 from 2001-2004. A Biletnikoff Award candidate, Sharon is fourth in the MAC in receptions (6.75) and fourth in receiving yards (102.4). With 181 more receiving yards this year, he will become the first player in BGSU history to post back-to-back 1,000+yard receiving seasons. He is the MAC's active career leader in receiving yards with 3,241.
The Falcons lead the MAC in pass offense (314.0), first downs (198) and punt returns (12.6).
In the first four games, the Falcons scored 17 times through the air. In the last five games, BGSU has scored 13 times on the ground.
