BGSU OPENS HOME SEASON WITH URBANA
The Falcons open their home season when they host Urbana. BGSU is 8-0 in home openers under Dan Dakich. and 5-0 against Urbana. BGSU last played the Blue Knights in the 2003-04 season opener and won 103-78 in Anderson Arena.
FALCONS AT THE NABC CLASSIC
BGSU concluded a three-game swing at the NABC Classic in Blacksburg, Va. After losing to Western Carolina, the Falcons defeated Virginia Tech 72-71, and lost to Radford, 81-63.
FALCONS WIN AT THE BUZZER AGAINST VIRGINIA TECH
Junior John Floyd was credited with a basket when Virginia Tech's A.D. Vassallo tipped in his desperation shot at the buzzer to give BGSU a 72-71 victory over the Hokies on November 12. BGSU led 33-28 at halftime, and held a 10-point lead with five minutes left. The Hokies took their first lead since the first half with 14 seconds left to set up the Floyd heroics.
QUICK HITS
The Falcons won their road opener for the third time in Dan Dakich's nine seasons (1999-00 at Hawaii; 2001-2002 at Duquesne). This was the Falcons' first game against an ACC opponent since playing at Clemson on November 27, 1981. This was the Falcons' first win against the ACC since defeating Virginia on December 21, 1967. The Falcon bench outscored the Hokie subs, 23-4. BGSU improved to 22-3 when it has had to play defense with a one or two-point lead in the final minute since the 2001-02 season. The win was the fourth for the Falcons by one point in the last two seasons (Toledo, 70-69; Ball State, 70-69; Miami, 57-56; Virginia Tech 72-71.
PLAYER NOTES
Junior transfer Martin Samarco led the Falcons by averaging 16.7 points in the three-day event. He also averaged five rebounds and shot 38.1% from three-point range. He also made 10 of 12 free throws.
Junior guard John Floyd was strong off the bench in the last two games. He averaged 13.3 points for the tournament and averaged five assists in the last two games. He shot a team-leading 42.9% from three-point range and tied for the team lead with three steals.
Freshman Erik Marschall started the last two games and averaged 10.3 points for the tournament. He shot 54.2% from the field and averaged 5.7 rebounds and one blocked shot per game.
Senior Mawel Soler averaged 7.3 points and 5.7 rebounds. He had a career-high eight assists against Radford. He also shot 76.9% from the field making 10 of 13 field goal attempts.
Junior Matt Lefeld had a career-high 14 points against Western Carolina and averaged 6.7 points and 6.7 rebounds. He also made 10 of 14 free throw attempts.
Freshman Darryl Clements averaged six points in the last two games. He also had six rebounds, two assists and two steals in his first action as a collegian.
Sophomore Perrick Robinson started all three games and averaged 2.7 points.
Junior Patrick Phillips and sophomore Alvin Freeman, a pair of walk-ons who have been in the program, saw limited action.
Freshman Brian Guerin and freshman Nick Wilson both saw their first action of the season.
