BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team announced three signees earlier this week. T.J. Blanton, Dennis Vaughn and Derek Spencer will join the Falcon squad next season.
Blanton is a 6'2"outfielder from St. Mary Central Catholic High School from Sandusky, Ohio. The team MVP was also named to the second-team All-Ohio, first team all-district and first team all-conference. Blanton compiled a school-record 42 hits last season. He also played quarterback and was a member of the wrestling team.
"T.J. is one of the finest all around athletes we have come across in my time here," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We see a lot in T.J. that we saw in Nolan Reimold, and hope he becomes that type of player."
Vaughn comes to Bowling Green as a dual threat, playing outfield while also adding a left-hand to the pitching staff. The Mentor, Ohio native was named team MVP, Cleveland Plain Dealer All-Star first team and honorable mention All-Ohio. Vaughn also played wide receiver and middle linebacker for the football team.
"He is one of the best left-handed hitters in the state of Ohio," said Schmitz, "He brings a great toughness to our program."
Spencer comes from the same high school as senior Tyler Wasserman, a current member of the BGSU baseball team and his play is very similar. Spencer was also a member of the Clay High School basketball team.
"Spencer plays the game the way it is supposed to be played," said Schmitz. "He plays hard, always hustling."
