BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University student-athletes Ali Shingler and Samantha Meister have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV University Division Women's Soccer Team, it was announced Thursday (Nov. 3). Shingler, named to the first team, earns academic all-district honors for the third consecutive year, while Meister, selected to the third team, makes the team for the first time in her career.
Shingler maintains a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average. The fifth-year senior has a dual major of biology and applied health science. Meister, a senior, is a graphic design major with a 3.49 GPA.
The 2005 season marks the second consecutive year, and the second time in school history, that the Falcons have had two student-athletes named to the team.
Shingler is only the third Falcon women's soccer student-athlete named to the Academic All-District First Team. She joins Keeley Dayton (2004) and Jill Conover (2001) on that list.

Shingler, a native of Grove City, Ohio (Grove City HS), is in her third season as the Falcons' starting goalkeeper. She has started all 20 matches this season to date, ans has set a school record with 13 wins. Shingler has a goals-against average of just 1.33 and five shutouts. Earlier this season, she put together a school-record shutout streak of 432:19, anchoring a defense that posted four consecutive shutouts during the middle of the Mid-American Conference schedule. Shingler ranks first or second on every goalkeeping list in BG history.
Meister, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio (Northwest HS), is the Falcons' leading scorer, with 22 points on the year. She leads the team in goals, with eight, and is third in assists, with six. Meister ranks second in the MAC in scoring, and also is second on the BGSU career lists with 28 goals and 73 points. She has a team-high three match-winning goals, coming in the Boise State, Kent State and Toledo (regular-season) contests. In the UT match, she had her first two-goal game of the season as the Falcons clinched the MAC's regular-season title.
Shingler and Meister each are part of the Falcons' nine-member senior class, the first class in school history to qualify for the MAC Tournament in four consecutive seasons. The Falcons advanced past UT in the league tourney quarterfinals, becoming the lone MAC team to reach the semifinals in each of the last four years.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District University Division Team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
The 2005-06 academic year marks the fifth time a women's soccer team has been selected. Prior to the 2001-02 academic year, women's soccer student-athletes were part of the Fall/Winter Sports At-Large ballot.
The Falcons of head coach Andy Richards, 13-6-1 overall, won the MAC's regular-season title with a 9-2-0 league ledger. BGSU, the number-one seed for the MAC Tournament, will host fourth-seeded Miami University in semifinal-round action Friday (Nov. 4). The match will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Cochrane Field.
