KENT, Ohio (AP) - Anthony Turner threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score to lead Bowling Green to a 24-14 victory over Kent State on Saturday.
The Falcons (5-4, 4-2 Mid-American Conference) played without star quarterback Omar Jacobs, who sat out his second straight game with a shoulder injury. Jacobs is second in the conference with 20 touchdown passes.
Bowling Green finished with just 282 yards of offense but its defense forced two turnovers and held Kent State to 247 yards.
P.J. Pope had 21 carries for 81 yards for the Falcons, who finished 169 yards rushing.
Pope scored on a 9-yard run in the first quarter. Joe Timchenko kicked a 27-yard field goal and Turner threw a 1-yard TD pass to Ruben Ruiz in the second to give the Falcons a 17-7 lead at halftime.
Michael Machen completed 27 of 39 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Flashes (1-8, 0-6). He also threw an interception and was sacked five times.
Turner finished 10-for-16 for 77 yards and was sacked four times. His 3-yard TD run in the third made it 24-7.
Machen threw a 38-yard TD pass to Derrick Bush in the fourth. Bush had five receptions for 69 yards and two scores.
Kent State managed just 25 yards rushing in its seventh consecutive loss.
B.J. Lane carried 13 times for 49 yards for Bowling Green, which snapped a two-game losing streak.
The Falcons have won their last five meetings with Kent State and lead the all-time series 52-15-6. The teams did not play each other last year for the first time in 58 years.
