MSU Head Coach Rick Comley Opening statement... "It was a very tight game again. Getting that second goal was critical, and we've really needed somebody to step up. We've had a lot of guys working hard, but productively you need somebody to get it done. Tonight it was Bryan Lerg, and we had that for a while so it was nice to see, and then he got really hot and it seemed like he could have had four or five goals."
On Bryan Lerg... "His whole history is that he's done that (scored goals). He led the U.S. program in scoring his last year there, so he's always scored goals. He's had a real good year, he just hasn't scored much. Maybe this will get him going."
On the team's defensive effort and Dominic Vicari's performance... "They have that one line and a very good power-play, and if you look at their scoring, they haven't had a lot of scoring from a lot of people. We tried to match Potter and Graham against Matsumoto's line, and then we tried to make them play at their goal line. They're a very quick team and they work hard, and if you let them roar up and down the ice then they're going to make something happen, so we tried to prevent that from happening."
"(Vicari) got a break early, on that first shot, when he misplayed the shot and it didn't go in. Lately, that's been going in, and even he admitted after that he needed to stop the first shot. Then he settled down and was really good."
Bowling Green head coach Scott Paluch On tonight's game... "It had a defensive theme to it. Both teams managed to clamp it down and goals came off of different broken plays."
On the third period... "I thought Michigan State did a real good job in the third period. It was a one-goal game and they managed to limit the chances.
David Booth, Sr., F On the key to tonight's victory... "Both Bryan Lerg and Dominic Vicari stepped up and played great games, and we needed someone to step up. I'm glad it was those two guys and they deserve a lot of credit tonight."
On Bryan Lerg... "He was moving his feet well tonight. He got the opportunity with the penalty shot and buried that, and was just driving to the net all night which is what you have to do to score goals. He lost like 20 pounds over the summer and he is moving so much better. He looks so much faster and hopefully he can keep that up.
Bryan Lerg, So., F On the penalty shot... "I pulled that move when I was younger, and I scored on it, so I said why not go for it again. I was thinking about going down the whole time because Jeff, my cousin, we always just laugh about that goal. It was one I had when we were younger."
On the game... "We were just trying to make sure we didn't panic. We wanted to stay strong on defense first, and just bury our chances when we got them in the offensive zone. I think we slacked off in the second period, I don't think we played well at all, but we took it to them in the first and the third. It's a good feeling, we just need to carry it over to tomorrow."
Dominic Vicari, Jr., G On his play... "I thought I played pretty well. My there wasn't a lot in the first or third, but I got some work in the second. We really needed a win today. We didn't want to go into the record books in a negative way.
On bouncing back from giving up early goals in previous games... "I think it is just being confident and getting my confidence back after I give up a goal on a weird bounce. Once I faced a couple of shots, got into the game and got my confidence back (against Minnesota), it kind of carried over to tonight."
