BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Post-game reactions after the Bowling Green State University women's basketball team's 76-51 win over Duquesne University at Anderson Arena Tuesday night (Dec. 6) ...
BGSU HEAD COACH CURT MILLER
"It was an outstanding win for us tonight, against a quality basketball team. I have the utmost respect for their coaching staff, I love their personnel, and they have a very talented team. Considering that they beat us, and beat us pretty well, last year, that was a big, big win for us tonight."

"We talked about them outmuscling and out-physicaling us last year. They outrebounded us by 14 last year, so rebounding was a huge key. But, they are a very good shooting team, and unfortunately our fans didn't get to see how good (Aiga) Bautre is. She is one of the elite scorers in the country, and as a basketball person, I wish our fans could have seen her play more. But, our defense was tremendous in the first half, holding them to 25 points. To finish off that defense, we got rebounds and kept them off the offensive boards, which was a huge key in their win last year. I was happy with our intensity and our focus in not backing down from that team."
On BGSU's second-half run
"(At the half) we talked about a few things they were trying to accomplish, and what we could counter that with. I liked our energy and focus coming out of the lockerroom. A 13-point game can be misleading; if they start strong, all of a sudden the lead is in single digits, and you feel it's a game again. With a quick start (like BGSU had), you play a little bit looser, and you can gamble a little bit more defensively. You can run, and take quick shots, and not worry as much if you miss a couple of shots."
"We got tremendous quality minutes from our bench tonight; all 11 players played over 10 minutes. At times, you could see some rust from our subs with quality minutes. They always come in there and spark us, but they don't always play the consecutive minutes that they got tonight. So, learning to play tired always helps our bench ... it's important to give everyone minutes when you can."
On the Falcons' balanced scoring
"One of the calling cards of our program over the last two years is our balance. We don't rely on one person, night-in and night-out, to score 20. I really like that we have a team that puts multiple players into double figures. Tonight, even some of the kids who aren't double-figure scorers stepped up and made plays when we needed them. It's a big key to how we have to play, and why I think we're a tough matchup at times."
JUNIOR FORWARD Ali Mann
"We came in knowing that they were going to be a very physical team. Last year, we were absolutely dominated, and we've been working in practice on bump-and-cuts, and (trying) not to get cheap fouls. I think we came out and were the more physical team tonight."
It seemed like the two freshman guards, Lindsey Goldsberry and Jasmine McCall, brought a lot of energy to the game tonight
"They bring a lot of energy to practice, and they bring a lot of energy to games. Lindsey came off the bench and had a steal right away for a layup and an 'and-one,' and that just got everyone going. Then, Jazz comes in and throws a behind-the-back, 'and-one' pass. That gets us all fired up."
On the Falcons' second-half run
"Coach always talks about, when you have a team down, you have to put the dagger in them and keep them down. That's what we did, we extended the lead to 25, 30 points and shut the door on them."
SOPHOMORE GUARD Kate Achter
"Last year, when we played them, we were overwhelmed by their physical play. One of the main points for tonight's game was to be physical, to match their physical play. We needed to handle ball pressure, we had to post up hard, get through screens; we needed to do all of those things to match their intensity."
The bench players have received some extended minutes in many of the games so far. How much will that benefit the team later on this season?
"It will be a huge benefit for us. If one of the starters gets in foul trouble, we can be confident that someone off the bench can come in and make big plays for us."
On the Falcons' 6-0 start
"I hope it continues. We've been playing good team basketball, and we need to do it as a team. It's not an individual effort out there, and as I think everyone can see, we've been doing it as a team."
