YPSILANTI, Mich. - Thoughts from Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Curt Miller, after the Falcons' 57-52 loss at Eastern Michigan University Saturday night (Feb. 19) at the Convocation Center...
(On the Falcons' offensive struggles, especially in the first half)
"Nothing changed from the first meeting. They (Eastern) are really physical with us, and they don't give you anything. You have to earn everything that you get. I thought we missed some three's out of the gate that made us a little tentative against their zone. Credit them for doing a nice job of switching their defenses against us in the first half, keeping us off balance. When we made the effort to get the ball inside, I thought we were more effective. But, throughout the whole first half, we missed some shots we are capable of making."
"Eerily, tonight's game mirrored the first game (a 51-48 EMU win on Jan. 12). In the first game, we could never get over the hump or take the lead. I felt, if we could ever get the game tied or take the lead tonight, we would have a chance to go on a run. But, every time we got close, they would have a go-to player step up, either by making a big play or showing the ability to get to the foul line."
(On the opportunity that was lost)
"Tonight would have clinched a share of the division title if we had won. So, we have our work cut out for us now, with (a game against) the hottest team in the league on Wednesday. We need to finish strong. It would be a shame for this team, after playing as well as they have all year, to look at a fourth or fifth seed (for the MAC Tournament). It has been a long time since this program has lost back-to-back games, so that will be our rallying cry; that we have always risen to the occasion (after a loss)."
"I thought our defense was terrific tonight. I thought we did what we needed to do to beat them; I can't ask for anything more out of our defense."
