SCHOOL TIES
BGSU assistant coach Kevin Eckert is a graduate of Ohio University, holding several degrees from the school ... he earned his bachelor's degree in 1996, and got his master's degree in athletic administration in 1998 ... Eckert spent two seasons as a graduate assistant for Larry Hunter's Bobcat men's team.
THE FALCONS VS. THE MAC
The Falcons lead the all-time series with 11 MAC opponents, and are narrowing the gap with that 12th team ... after Wednesday's (Feb. 2) 80-44 win over Northern Illinois, BGSU trails that series by a slim 12-11 margin.
LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons started slowly, but put together a 19-0 run in each half en route to an 80-44 victory over Northern Illinois Wednesday night (Feb. 2) ... sophomore Carin Horne, who made just one of her first eight shots of the game, made her final five shots on the night -- four from three-point land -- to finish with a game-high 18 points ... BG led by 10 points at the half, then outscored the Huskies by a 50-24 margin in the second half ... the Falcons shot 48.2 percent from the field in the game, including a 16-for-27 effort (59.3%) in the second half, while holding Northern to a 27.8% field-goal rate on the night ... sophomore Liz Honegger had 13 points, including three second-half three-pointers as the Falcons made a season-high 11 treys on the night ... Mary Basic led the Huskies with 11 points.
THE DEFENSE NEVER RESTS

THE DEFENSE NEVER RESTS II
During NIU's first-half stretch without a field goal Wednesday night, the Falcons forced the Huskies to miss 10 consecutive shots and commit 12 turnovers ... at one point, NIU turned the ball over on nine consecutive possessions ... in the second half, NIU missed 15-straight shots from the field, turning the ball over seven times in that span.
MORE ON THE FALCON DEFENSE
191 GAMES AND COUNTING
The Falcons have made at least one three-point field goal in every game during the past six-plus years ... in fact, BGSU has drained a triple in each of the last 191 games, a school record by far ... the last time the Falcons were held without a trey was on March 1, 1998 ... the previous school record had been 29-straight games on two occasions -- most recently, in the 1993-94 (last five games) and 1994-95 (first 24 games) seasons.
THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER
The Falcons made a season-high 11 three-pointers and shot 50.0% from long distance in the win over Northern Illinois ... BGSU went 9-of-14 (64.3%) from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes, including 5-for-7 during the Falcons' 19-0 run in the second half ... the nine triples in that half matched BGSU's previous 2004-05 best for an entire game.
THAT'S A GOOD SIGN
The Falcons made nine three-point field goals in the second half of Wednesday's game, while holding Northern Illinois to only eight total field goals made during that time.
HORNE HEATS UP
Sophomore Carin Horne has put up some big numbers over the past few games ... Horne made only one of her first eight shots in the NIU game, but drained her final five shots of the night - including four from three-point range - to finish with a game-high 18 points ... she was 5-for-8 from long distance, tying her career best for three-point field goals made, and was a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point land in the second half ... defensively, Horne, who had set a career standard with six steals in the Falcons' previous game (Jan. 26 at Kent State), matched that total with a game-high six thefts vs. the Huskies ... she is averaging 19.0 points in the last two contests, and has a total of 21 steals over the past five games.
FINDING THEIR SHOOTING TOUCH
The Falcons misfired on the first nine field-goal attempts vs. Northern Illinois, and trailed by a 13-6 count ... after going 0-for-9, however, BG went 27-for-47 (57.4%) over the final 33-plus minutes ... BGSU outscored the Huskies by a 74-31 margin after that early seven-point deficit.
DETROIT ROCK CITY
Two of BGSU's seniors, Tene Lewis and Sakima Smith, were high-school teammates at Detroit's Communication & Media Arts ... Lewis and Smith each had nine points in the win over NIU, combining to go 8-for-11 from the field ... Lewis tied for game scoring honors in the first half with seven points on 3-for-3 shooting, and also had five assists at the break ... she finished with six assists, two steals and four rebounds in a career-high 28 minutes ... Smith's nine points more than doubled her previous season best ... she scored all nine points in the second half, going 4-for-5 from the floor ... Smith had two assists and a steal, and hit her first three-pointer of the year.
THANKS FOR COMING
The Northern Illinois game marked the 50th BGSU contest since the current sophomore class arrived on campus ... that class includes Amber Flynn, Julie Gompers, Liz Honegger, Carin Horne, Ali Mann and Megan Thorburn ... after going 21-35 in the two years before their arrival, the Falcons have posted a record of 34-16 since.
LEAD, TRAIL OR GET OUT OF THE WAY
The Falcons have not played many back-and-forth games over the past several weeks ... BGSU led for a total of just 25 seconds in the game at Kent State (Jan. 26) ... that came on the heels of two games - the Miami (Jan. 19) and Western Michigan (Jan. 22) contests - in which the Falcons trailed for a total of just 10 seconds in the 80 minutes ... that, in turn, came after the Brown and Orange led for a total of just 11:42 of the 85 minutes over the previous two games, vs. Eastern Michigan (Jan. 12) and Toledo (Jan. 15) ... BG led for only 59 seconds of the EMU game and 10:43 of the win at UT ... Wednesday vs. NIU, the Falcons led for the final 29:05 after seizing the lead on a Tene Lewis free throw.
BLOCK PARTY: HONEGGER MOVING UP THE LISTS
Liz Honegger, just a sophomore, is rapidly moving up the BGSU lists for blocked shots ... she is currently third on the career chart, with 90, and is threatening to break the single-season record ... Honegger already owns a piece of the latter mark, having tied the BG record with 50 blocks in her first season on campus ... but, she is blocking shots at an even more prolific pace this year ... Honegger had 1.61 blocks per contest last winter, and -- with 40 rejections through 19 games this season -- currently averages 2.11 per game ... Honegger has moved past Joelyn Shoup on the career list, and her next target is second-place Megan McGuire, who had 98 blocks from 1985-89 ... Honegger is on pace to obliterate the BGSU career record for blocks per game.
ANOTHER BLOCK PARTY
As mentioned, Liz Honegger is on a pace to break the BGSU single-season record for blocked shots ... Honegger tied that record, originally set by Angie Bonner, with 50 rejections last year ... this season, Honegger has 40 blocks through 19 games, including 18 blocks through eight MAC games this year ... Honegger owns the seasonal record for blocks in conference games, with 27 a year ago.
IT STANDS TO REASON
Not surprisingly, the Falcons have enjoyed success in games in which they have shot and rebounded well ... BGSU is 13-0 this season, and 45-6 in the Curt Miller Era, when the Falcons have a higher field-goal percentage than the opponent ... BG is 0-6 when the opposition has a higher FG pct. in 2004-05 ... this year, the Falcons have a record of 10-0 when outrebounding the opponent ... BGSU is now 30-7 in such games in Miller's tenure.
80 IS ENOUGH
The Falcons have not scored over 80 points in any of the last nine games ... but, BGSU has had exactly 80 points in four of those nine contests, winning all four.
FALCONS IN THE MAC
A number of Falcons are represented in the latest Mid-American Conference individual statistics, as of Saturday morning (Feb. 5) ...
PAINT BY NUMBERS
For the most part, the Falcons have enjoyed success inside this year ... BGSU has outscored the opponents in the paint in 13 of the first 19 games ... BGSU's three highest point totals in the paint have come in home games, vs. Youngstown State (48), Western Michigan (44) and Bucknell (40) ... the Falcons have outscored the opponents, 203-126, in the paint in the six home games to date.
CROWDED AT THE TOP OF THE REBOUNDING LIST
Over the last few weeks, sophomores Ali Mann and Liz Honegger have traded places at the top of the BGSU active career rebounding list ... currently, the two are tied at the top, as both Mann and Honegger have 383 boards ... senior Kelly Kapferer has 332 rebounds in her career.
