BGSU To Host Western Michigan This Sunday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Gymnastics team will welcome the Broncos of Western Michigan to the Eppler Center this Sunday, as the two teams will square off at 2:00 p.m. The dual meet is scheduled to air on BCSN.
RECAP OF LAST WEEK'S ACTION FOR THE FALCONS
BGSU went 1-1 over the past week, beginning with a 194.300-194.075 heart-breaking loss to Kent State, followed by a 192.075-191.325 win over Northern Illinois two days later.
In the meet with the Flashes, senior Breanne Metzger led all competitors with a 38.575 in the all-around, but she was not the only Falcon to shine last Friday.
The Falcons were once again led by junior Jessica Guyer, who captured first-place for the third consecutive meet, this time walking away with top honors with a 9.725 on the vault.
On the bars, the Falcons posted a team score of 48.500 and were led by junior Jessica Bradley and freshman Jessica Ewart. Bradley posted a season-high 9.825 for second place, while Ewart's 9.775 placed her in third, also a season-best.
Bradley also led the bunch on the beam, finishing fourth with a 9.800, also a season-best. Ewart (9.725) and Metzger (9.650) finished sixth and seventh.
The final event of the night saw the Brown and Orange wow the crowd with a season-best 48.925 on the floor exercise. Guyer posted a season-best 9.900. Senior Kristen DiPietro (9.850) and freshman Candice Deacon (9.750) rounded out the top three for the Falcons.
Versus the Huskies, BGSU snapped a three-match losing streak and improved to 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Kristin DiPietro finished first in the all-around with a 38.625. She posted marks on 9.65 (vault), 9.625 (bars), 9.675 (beam) and 9.675 (floor) to lead all competitors.
The Brown and Orange continued their stellar performance on the vault as of late, posting a 48.225 as a team. They were led by sophomore Jessica McArthur and freshman Jayme Stambaugh, both finishing in a tie for second with a 9.725.
Uneven bars specialist Kari Elste posted a 9.700, finishing second, while Jessica Bradley (9.675) and Jessica Ewart (9.650) rounded out the top three for the Falcons on the bars.
DiPietro (9.675), Bradley (9.625) and Breanne Metzger (9.600) led the way for Bowling Green on the beam, posting a team score of 47.375.
The Falcons took control of the match on the floor exercise. While BGSU posted a 48.425, the Huskies faltered, recording only a 47.900. Junior Jessica Guyer led all competitors with a 9.800, followed by sophomore Erin Coudriet (9.725) and DiPietro (9.675).
A LOOK AT THE BRONCOS
The Western Michigan University gymnastics team finished fourth with a score of 192.050 at the Michigan Classic held in University Arena last Sunday afternoon. The Broncos are now 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the MAC.
The Michigan Wolverines finished first (196.750), Michigan State placed second (195.275), Central Michigan came in third (194.800) and Eastern Michigan was last with a 191.325.
The Broncos were led by sophomore Shelby Gribeck, freshman Courtney Lesson and junior Cherisse Marier, all recording high scorers for the Broncos in their respective events. Lesson managed a 9.825 on vault while Gribeck and Marier both scored a 9.825 on floor.
UP NEXT
BGSU will host Southeast Missouri State and Wisconsin Oshkosh Feb. 18 at 7:00 p.m. for their final home meet of the 2005 season. Participating in their final meet inside the Eppler Center will be seniors Kristin DiPietro, Breanne Metzger and Kari Elste.
