MUNCIE, Ind. - Quoting Bowling Green State University women's basketball head coach Curt Miller after the Falcons' 69-49 win at Ball State Tuesday night (Feb. 8)...
"This was a big win, and I can't be more proud. There were stretches tonight where we were absolutely awesome, some of the best basketball we've played all year."
"Rebounding was huge in the first half. That's two games in a row where we've really focused on rebounding, and really came through. We didn't rebound quite as well in the second half, and it was frustrating that we couldn't get to the foul line. But, overall, we did what we needed to do well, with dominating performances in stretches."
"I can't be more happy for Liz (Honegger), as an Indiana kid coming home and playing so well in front of a lot of Indiana people."
(On Liz Honegger having the hot hand)
"We thought, if things went well, we could score inside with her against man(-to-man defense), and she's such a good three-point shooter that she's a real inside-outside threat against a zone. We saw a lot of zone tonight, as much zone as we've seen in a long time. For Liz to step up and make some of those three's to alleviate some of the extended pressure that you get from their zone was big."
(How did you feel your team handled Ball State's press?)
"Well, I was frustrated with some silly turnovers in the first half. But, four or five of those turnovers came on charges, and if you take those away, I thought we did a pretty good job handling it. They pressed us in some form or another for essentially the entire game. For us to come back in the second half and end up with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio in a game like this is very important."
(On BSU's Kate Endress)
"You are never going to totally shut her down. You need to be aware of her the whole time. I thought we made her work hard for her points, and that's all you can ask. She's going to score, but if you make her work hard for her points, you have to be pleased."
(On the wins over Northern Illinois, Ohio and BSU)
"This is as good a seven-day stretch as we've had since we got here. We will have to be ready for Akron. They are a much-improved conference team with very good guard play, so we will have to be ready for that game."
