Four teams now have five losses at the top of the MAC West Standings. Western Michigan is 8-5, while BGSU, Toledo and Ball State all are 7-5. With three weeks left WMU will play two at home and three on the road, BGSU and Toledo will have three each at home and on the road, and Ball State will play just twice more at home and must go on the road four times.
Junior Steven Wright had a career-high 23 points and also established career-bests for field goals made in a game with nine. He is averaging 15.3 points and 7.7 rebounds in his last three games.
Senior John Reimold was the only other Falcon in double figures with 11 points. He also had six rebounds.
Freshman Scott Vandermeer made his second straight start. He tied his career best with seven rebounds (UIC). He has averaged 4.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in those starts.
In the last two games, the BGSU defense has held its opponents to 39.2% shooting (40/102).
After the Falcons fell behind 34-17 for the second time this season against the Rockets, BGSU outscored Toledo 14-0 from the 1:46 mark before halftime until 14:28 was left in the game to cut the deficit to 34-31.
BGSU cut the lead to 49-44 with 3:45 left and held the Rockets on defense twice, but could not get any closer than five points the rest of the way.
The Falcons will play at Kent State at 2 p.m., Saturday. The game will be aired on Fox Sports Ohio.
