LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Host UNLV used an 11-hit attack to post a 5-0 win over the Bowling Green State University softball team Thursday night (March 10) in the Eller Media Stadium Classic.
With the win, the host Rebels improve to 15-9 on the season, while the Falcons are now 1-11.
A first-inning run proved to be all the scoring Rebel starting pitcher Jacque Kerrigan would need. UNLV, the visiting team for Thursday night's game, got on the board as Shannon Crisp's sacrifice fly drove home Caitlyn Paus.
In the third, Marissa Nichols singled, and took third after a Paus single and an error. Then, Brittany Meade, who had three hits in the game, singled to score Nichols.
The Rebels added three more runs in the fifth, highlighted by Morgan Bostwick's two-run single.
Kerrigan allowed three hits in her five-inning stint, while Becky McDonald provided two-innings of one-hit relief for the Rebels. Junior Liz Vrabel took the loss, allowing five runs and 10 hits in five innings. Vrabel walked two batters and struck out five.
Senior Kristen Anderson made her first appearance in the circle this year, with two innings of shutout relief. Anderson allowed one hit and walked one batter.
All 11 UNLV hits in the game were singles. In addition to Meade's three hits, Nichols and Paus each had multiple-hit games, with two hits apiece. Four different Falcons -- D.J. DeLong, Abby Habicht, Lindsay Heimrich and Megan McPherson -- had one hit each.
The Falcons return to action with Friday games vs. Minnesota and MAC foe Miami.
