BGSU, Miami and Kent State are the only teams in the MAC to advance to Cleveland each year since the postseason tournament moved to Gund Arena in 2000.
The RedHawks 57.5% effort from the field was the highest yielded by the Falcon defense this season (53.2% at Ohio).
In the last meeting between the two teams, Miami (10) and BGSU (15) shot just 25 free throws in the game and were whistled for 29 fouls. Tonight the teams shot 63 free throws (BGSU-27 and Miami-39) and were called for 58 fouls.
BGSU also had a season-low one steal.
The game
Miami scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed. The Falcons got as close as four at 18-14 on a tip-in by sophomore Matt Lefeld and at 21-17 on a three-pointer by Steven Wright with 7:53 left.
Miami led 39-29 at halftime and built a 59-39 lead with 11:06 left in the game. The Falcons could get no closer than 13 the rest of the way.
Player Notes
Senior John Reimold had a team-high 24 points and averaged 31 points in two MAC Tournament games this year. His 17 free throw attempts was a career-high. He has averaged 18.5 points per game this season which leads the MAC.
His 228 career three-point field goals establishes a BGSU career record. He is 17th in career scoring at BGSU with 1,380 points. His 42.5% career effort from three-point range also ranks second all-time in BGSU history.
Senior Josh Almanson had 16 points and four rebounds. He led the MAC in shooting by making 59.2% of his shots from the field. His 58.1 career effort moved him past former teammate Len Matela for third place on the school's all-time career list.
His 1,136 career points also ranks 27th on the school's all-time list. His 81.3% free throw percentage for his career ranks sixth all-time in BGSU history.
Senior Cory Eyink had six points tonight and finished with 475 career points. His 39.8% career three-point field goal percentage mark ranks sixth all-time at BGSU.
Sophomore Austin Montgomery had a season-high nine points.
Junior Steven Wright had eight points and four assists.
Sophomore Matt Lefeld had a huge offensive rebound and tip-in for the Falcons.
