Falcons Capture Early Bird Relay Crown To Open Outdoor Season

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University track and field team posted 147 points en route to an Early Bird Relay crown in Cincinnati, Ohio, to open the 2005 outdoor season. The host Bearcats finished second with 130 points, followed by IPFW (66), Cedarville (61) and Wright State (37) to round out the top five.
Sophomore Jessica White opened the outdoor season with a bang, finishing first in the 100-meters with a time 12.52 and second in the 200-meters with a time of 25.64. Nicole Standback joined her teammate in the sprint events, also placing first, this time in the 100-meter hurdle (15.16).
The middle distance events saw senior Amber Walker place second in the 400-meters with a time of 59.55.
A pair of seniors and a freshman had impressive finishes in the distance events. Senior Melissa Krueger, with a time of 4:46.92, placed second in the 1500-meters, while fellow senior Nicole Suitor placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:39.30). Freshman Jamie Roflow was a full 27 seconds faster then the nearest competitor in the 5000-meters with a time of 17:35.80.
Sophomore Erica Wilson finished third in the high jump (5-02), while Veronica Vance placed fourth in the long jump (5.18 meters) to lead the Brown and Orange in the jumps.
Senior Kerri McClung had a pair of second-place finishes in the shot put (13.02) and hammer throw (47.65), while sophomore Andi Bunko won the javelin toss with a mark of 34.94 meters.
Up next for the Falcons will be a trip to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where the Falcons will compete in a dual meet with Western Michigan on March 26.
