Falcons Conclude Non-Conference Schedule This Weekend

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, coming off an overtime win, concludes the non-conference portion of the schedule this weekend ... the Falcons of head coach Andy Richards (3-3-0) will conclude a brief, two-match homestand with a Friday (Sept. 16) contest vs. Cleveland State University ... kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at Cochrane Field ... then, BGSU will hit the road for five consecutive matches, beginning with Sunday's (Sept. 18) trip to Bloomington to take on Indiana University ... that match will begin at noon locally (1:00 p.m. Eastern) on Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium.
LAST WEEKEND
The Falcons split a pair of matches over the weekend ... on Friday (Sept. 9), BGSU dropped a 1-0 decision at Michigan State ... two days later, the Brown and Orange returned home to down Eastern Illinois, 2-1, in overtime for the team's first win at Cochrane Field this year.
RICHARDS REACHES A MILESTONE
The win over Eastern Illinois marked the 50th victory in the head-coaching career of Andy Richards ... Richards, in his sixth season at BGSU, has 50 of the 69 wins in the history of the Falcon program.
WORKING OVERTIME
In a matchup of 2004 NCAA Tournament teams, the Falcons picked up an overtime win over Eastern Illinois Sunday (Sept. 11) at Cochrane Field ... in the history of the BGSU women's soccer program, the Falcons are now 11-11-14 in overtime matches ... BG is just 4-9-6 in home contests that have gone to OT ... the Falcons have never lost a road overtime match, having gone 5-0-7 on opposing soil ... BGSU is 2-2-1 in neutral-site OT affairs.

Senior Leah Eggleton's overtime strike vs. Eastern Illinois was the first match-winning goal of her career ... of the 11 overtime wins in program history, members of the current senior class have provided six of the 'Golden Goals' ... Samantha Meister is the lone player in school history with more than one OT goal, having scored three in her career ... Senior Julie Trundle has tied the BGSU record for career assists ... her crossing ball on classmate Samantha Meister's goal vs. Eastern Illinois produced the 25th assist of her Falcon tenure ... Trundle is now tied with Jill Conover (1999-2002) for the BGSU record ... the Medina, Ohio, native ranks sixth in school history in scoring, with 45 career points.
TWO TOP GOALIES IN TOWN
When the Falcons head to Bloomington to face Indiana on Sunday, the top-two goalkeepers in BGSU history both will be on hand ... one, Ali Shingler, will likely be in the Falcon net ... the other, Erika Flanders, will be on the IU bench ... Flanders is in her first season as an assistant coach for the Hoosiers ... the Mason, Ohio, native was a four-year starter for the Falcons, earning All-MAC First-Team honors in her senior year of 2002 ... she ended her career holding every goalkeeping record - single-match, single-season and career - in the BGSU record book, and still holds the Mid-American Conference records for career minutes played (7084:22) and saves (473).
HEAD COACH Andy Richards
Andy Richards is in his sixth season as a collegiate head coach, all with the Falcons ... as mentioned earlier, he picked up his 50th career win on Sunday ... he has an overall record of 50-55-10, including a MAC Tournament mark of 7-3-1 ... Richards has led BGSU to the four finest seasons in school history over his first five years ... he has guided the Falcons to the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament on four occasions, to the championship match three times, and, in 2004, to the first league tourney title and NCAA Tournament berth in school history ... Eric Golz is in his second season with the program, and his first as the top assistant.

BGSU enters the weekend with an overall record of 3-3-0 ... after allowing a total of eight goals in two home losses to start the season (4-1 to Oakland, 4-0 vs. Wright State), the Falcons have surrendered just three goals in the last four matches, winning three ... BG picked up victories over host Northern Arizona (2-1) and Boise State (1-0) at the La Quinta Inn & Suites Mountain Classic in Flagstaff, Ariz. ... last weekend, the Falcons lost a narrow 1-0 decision at Michigan State, but rebounded with a 2-1 overtime win against Eastern Illinois ... senior Samantha Meister leads the Falcons with three goals and seven points on the season, while classmate Julie Trundle has a goal and four points .... another senior, Leah Eggleton, has three points, including the match-winning goal vs. EIU, while freshman Kristin McDonald and senior Britt Anderson have two points apiece ... senior Ali Shingler has played every minute in goal, and has 39 saves and a 1.80 goals-against average ... Cleveland State enters the BGSU match with a record of 0-5-0 ... the Vikings, a second-year program, have scored five goals this season after recording just four during all of last season ... two of the team's losses have been by just one goal against MAC foes, including last weekend's 2-1 loss at Akron ... sophomore Ashley Spahn recorded the first two-goal match in school history, with both of the team's markers in Sunday's 5-2 loss to Valparaiso ... she is tied for the team scoring lead with freshman Ashley Walchack, who also has two goals and four points ... freshman Erin Withrow has started all five matches in goal, and has a 3.51 goals against average and 16 saves ... the Vikings went 0-20-0 last year, in the first season in program history ... CSU returned nine letterwinners, including seven starters, from that team ... head coach Derrick Falor, in his second year with the Vikings, is 56-72-10 in his eighth season as a collegiate head coach.
Indiana enters the weekend with a record of 2-3-1 ... the Hoosiers will host Butler on Friday (Sept. 16) before welcoming the Falcons to town two days later ... last weekend, IU split a pair of home matches in the inaugural Hoosier Classic, losing to Miami (Fla.), 2-1, before bouncing back with a 3-1 win over Xavier ... those marked the team's first home matches this year ... senior Kristen Zmijewski leads the team with two goals on the season, while freshman Molly Beckwith has four points to tie Zmijewski for the IU lead in that category ... senior Lauren Fabbro and sophomore Stacey Van Boxmeer each have seen action in four matches in goal ... Fabbro has both of the team's wins and a 1.00 GAA, while Van Boxmeer has a team-high 17 saves and a GAA of 2.48 ... head coach Mick Lyon welcomed back a whopping 22 letterwinners, including nine starters, from last year's team that went 9-7-3 and finished with a 3-5-2 Big Ten Conference mark ... Lyon has a record of 29-27-5 in his fourth season with the Hoosiers, and is 136-92-25 in his 13th year as a collegiate head coach.
The Falcons lead Cleveland State, 1-0-0, in the all-time series between the teams ... BGSU picked up a 5-1 win last Oct. 1 in Strongsville, Ohio ... Samantha Meister, Molly Bremen and Ashley Wentzel all scored goals in that match, with Bremen and Wentzel also picking up assists ... Leah Eggleton and Julie Trundle each had an assist in that match as well.
Indiana holds a 2-0-0 advantage over the Falcons in that series ... in just the sixth match in program history, BGSU suffered a 6-1 loss in Bloomington (Sept. 12, 1997) ... IU's other win over the Falcons was a 3-0 decision at Cochrane Field on Oct. 24, 1999.

HOPE GAS PRICES GO DOWN
Falcon fans living in Northwest Ohio might want to make it to Cochrane Field for Friday's Cleveland State match ... following that contest, BGSU's eight-match home schedule will be half over ... the Indiana match begins a five-game road swing for the Brown and Orange, who will not play at home again until Oct. 7 ... and, BG has only four of BG's 11 MAC matches are at home, tied for the lowest total of home matches in the league ... the good news is that the Falcons are 12-5-1 in MAC regula-season road matches over the last three seasons.
