BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons showed more consistency and depth and for their efforts, they placed third as a team at the Bowling Green Invitational. Ball State University won the meet with 226 points. The University of Cincinnati finished second with 144.5 points. Behind the Falcons were Dayton (71 points), Xavier (25 points) and IPFW (17 points).
"I was extremely pleased with the improvement the squad made over the past week," said head coach Scott Sehmann. "We competed well against some great competition tonight."
Sophomore Jamie Roflow did what she does best--win, and in style. Winning the 5,000-meter run, she set a new personal-best of 16:58.65, over 25 seconds faster than her previous best.
Another Falcon win came in the 4x400-meter relay of Yemoja Marotta, Lyndi Springer, Megan McAuley, and Lacey Cochran, running 3:58.42.
For the second week in a row, fellow sophomore Whitney Hartman set a personal-best in the 20 pound weight throw, with a new toss of 16.65-meters (54-07.05), finishing in second place. Hartman finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 12.88-meters (42-03.25).
Stephanie Hillman ran a personal-best in the 3,000-meter by over 14 seconds. She finished second with a time of 10:19.28.
Junior Jessica White, who sat out last week's meet, finished second in the 60-meter dash, with a time of 7.70 seconds.
Paris Bussey returned for her first meet of the season for the Falcons, throwing an impressive 13.73-meters (45-00.50) to place second. Bussey also had a toss of 15.50-meters (50-10.25) in the weight throw to finish fifth.
Teammate Lyndi Springer finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.44.
"It was a 99 percent improvement over last weeks performances as a team," said Sehmann. "The women showed much more effort, enthusiasm and a much better attitude tonight and I am proud of them for that."
Despite their drastic improvement as a team, Sehmann still feels the squad has much more to improve on as the weeks pass by before the MAC Championships at the end of February.
"I feel there are still many categories the ladies can improve upon in the next few weeks," said Sehmann. "We have an opportunity to train and race on the same track that the conference championships are being held on and we look to take full advantage of that in our training. But overall, they had a lot more heart tonight and I don't know how much more I could have asked for from them."
The Falcons will return to Perry Field House on Friday February 3, at 5 p.m. They will travel to Findlay this upcoming Saturday for the Findlay Track and Field Classic that will run all day.
