BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - CSTV.com has released its preseason women's basketball poll for 2006-07, and the Bowling Green State University Falcons are among those teams listed. Head coach Curt Miller's team is ranked 25th in the preseason poll.
The CSTV.com ranking marks the third poll appearance for the Brown and Orange in the 2006-07 preseason. Last month, the Falcons were ranked 20th in the nation in the Athlon Sports poll and 21st in the country by Lindy's.
Miller and his staff return nine letterwinners, including all five starters, from a 28-3 team that set school and Mid-American Conference records for victories. BGSU was a perfect 16-0 in MAC regular-season play, then won three MAC Tournament games to capture that crown and advance to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season.
The CSTV.com site lists brief previews for the top-five schools -- Maryland, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Stanford -- and one-sentence descriptions for the remainder of the top-25 programs. For the Falcons, the sentence reads, "Four double-digit scorers return, with senior Ali Mann highlighting the list."
In addition to Mann, the Falcons welcome back seniors Liz Honegger, Carin Horne and Megan Thorburn and junior Kate Achter, all of whom are returning starters. Mann (first team), Achter (second team), Honegger (second team) and Horne (third team) each earned All-MAC honors in March, and Achter, Honegger and Mann all have been selected to the '06-07 Preseason All-MAC Team.
Senior Amber Flynn, junior Whitney Taylor and sophomores Lindsey Goldsberry and Jasmine McCall round out the Falcons' strong corps of returnees. Miller and Company welcome three newcomers to the program in freshmen Tara Breske, Laura Bugher and Sarah Clapper.
The Falcons will host Findlay in an exhibition game on Nov. 1 at Anderson Arena. The regular season begins Friday, Nov. 10, with a game at Detroit, and the home portion of the schedule commences two weeks later, when Temple visits Anderson Arena on Friday, Nov. 24.
