BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - With the official start of practice just a day away, the Bowling Green State University women's basketball team is looking forward to the 2006-07 season. And, as the season draws ever closer, the Falcons are receiving more recognition from expert analysts across the nation.
The Falcons, already listed in three preseason polls, now have been mentioned in a fourth. Nancy Lieberman, an ESPN women's basketball analyst and a Hall of Famer, ranked the Falcons 24th in the nation in her preseason poll, which can be accessed by clicking HERE. Lieberman writes, "Last season, the Falcons made waves in the MAC, setting school and league records with 28 victories, including a perfect 16-0 mark in regular-season play. They should be even better this season with four double-digit scorers back."
The Falcons were also mentioned in a column by Megan Youngblood, "Sixty-Four Things You Need To Know," on the CSTV.com web site. In the article, which can be found by clicking HERE, Youngblood states the following ...
"Led by Two-Time MAC Coach of the Year Curt Miller, two-time defending MAC Champion Bowling Green will return all five starters, including 6-foot-1 Ali Mann, who averaged 14.6 ppg and 5-foot-11 Liz Honegger, who totaled 51 [actually 52] blocked shots. Finishing the '05-06 season ranked third in the nation in winning percentage, the Falcons will enter the 2006-07 season with the fourth-longest home winning streak in the nation and will hope to widen its 18 consecutive wins at Anderson Arena."
Previously, the Brown and Orange had been ranked 20th in the nation in the Athlon Sports preseason poll, 21st in the country by Lindy's and 25th nationally by CSTV.com.
The Falcons will host Findlay in an exhibition game on Nov. 1 at Anderson Arena. The regular season begins Friday, Nov. 10, with a game at Detroit, and the home portion of the schedule commences two weeks later, when Temple visits Anderson Arena on Friday, Nov. 24.
