BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Quoting the Bowling Green State University players as the Falcons prepare for a Thursday (Oct. 19) game at Central Michigan ...
Marques Parks
(You rotated in about seven or eight guys at the receiver spots. How do you prepare for that, and get comfortable and get in a rhythm?)
"One of the things that Coach Z (Zach Azzanni) really stresses is that you don't need to know just your position, you need to know all four positions -- X, H, E, Z. We even know what the tight ends are doing on a lot of plays. So we all get reps there every week. Probably the
biggest thing we do before every game is our tests. Coach Z gets us probably about a 60-page test with every play that we are going to be running, out of every formation. Everybody just has to take that test and know every single position, so I think we just do a good
job of getting ready at any position. We just have to be on our toes in case we get thrown in there at any position."
(After missing some time due to injury last year, you were able to contribute and make some big plays in a close game on Saturday. Is
that something that you want to be able to do a little bit more of?)
"Definitely. You know, I can't predict what plays are going to be called or anything like that, but when I do get in there and I have a chance to make a play ... obviously everyone wants to make a play, and a big play at that. It was great to have a first-down catch on a key
drive that I think really helped us."
Terrel White
(Can you talk about your two interceptions vs. EMU, and the big plays that you made and what they meant to your team?)
"It gave a little momentum swing. The first one they got it down to score. The last one was big because it ended the game. They were driving downfield, and if they would have scored they would have won."
(A lot of the seniors stepped up pretty big to win the EMU game. What have you guys been telling the younger guys as you get ready for Central during the short week?)
"Basically, practices won't be that hard, because we have to recover from Saturday's game. But, you have to make sure you get in there and watch film. You have to prepare more mentally this week than any other week."
(What are the keys to beating Central?)
"We need to play solid on both sides of the ball, and in the kicking game, and try not to avoid any big mistakes."
Anthony Turner
(How are you feeling?)
"I feel good. We got a win under our belt, and we will just continue to work hard and try to get another one this week."
(You guys seem to be in a lot of close games, and have come out on top in those games. That has to help build confidence, doesn't it?)
"Definitely. Defense wins games. And I was never a believer of that; I always used to argue with the defense that the offense wins games, but defense definitely wins games. And, they are getting a lot better every week. Same with the offense; we just need to be more consistent and things will be a lot better."
(It seems like you guys have a chance to make it to a bowl game and maybe win the MAC. As you get later in the season, and get a little closer to some of these goals, how does that help the team's confidence?)
"The confidence right now is sky high. The way the offense is playing and the way the defense is playing, it is great. (Diyral) Briggs is making a lot of plays, and Devon Parks is making plays. We just have a lot of guys making plays, and you can see that on the field with their confidence levels."
(How does playing on the road at Ohio State in front of 105,000 screaming fans compare to playing on Thursday at Central Michigan? Does that give you a lot of confidence that you can play on the road after playing in that environment?)
"Our motto going into this year ... we called ourselves 'road warriors' because we have so many games away from home this year. Once you get out there and the game starts, I really don't think that the fans have anything to do with it. It's just a matter of how we go out there and play, and what mindset we take out there to get the job done."
