Swiger to Serve on the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Junior Stephanie Swiger has been appointed as a member of the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The Findlay, Ohio native is the Mid-American Conference's representative to the National SAAC, also serving as the MAC SAAC Chair.

"I am really excited to have the opportunity to serve on the National Student Athletic Advisory Counsel," said Swiger. "I feel honored to represent BGSU and the MAC on a national level to try and improve them for athletes of the future. This is the kind of opportunity I have been waiting for and I am looking forward to helping other athletes have a great experience in college like I have had."
Personal Athletic Accomplishments: Swiger was named MAC East Player of the Week in consecutive weeks on Sept. 18 & 25 after recording 3.81 kills and 1.14 blocks with a .358 hitting percentage over the six-match span, leading the Falcons to a perfect 6-0 record. She was named tournament MVP at the Country Inn & Suites Classic held at Youngstown State. Swiger also ranks second in the Mid-American Conference with a 1.32 blocks per game average, trailing only her teammate Kendra Halm's 1.36 average.
Team Athletic Accomplishments: Led the Falcons to a pair of tournament championships, capturing tournament MVP honors at the Country Inn & Suites Classic. Bowling Green is 14-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play, including a 10-match winning streak that began on Sept. 9 and has yet to end.
The SAAC is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.
"This is a fantastic honor and a very exciting time for Stephanie," said Janna Blais, BGSU Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator. "She will be representing over 5,000 Mid-American Conference student-athletes on the National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She will have the opportunity to impact the lives and experiences of Division I student-athletes all around the country. We are so proud of Stephanie. Bowling Green State University and the Mid-American Conference will be very well represented."
Cal Bowers is the last Falcon serve on the National SAAC, holding the position from 1993-96. Bowers was a four-year letterwinner for the Falcon football team during the 1992-95 seasons, and is currently the color commentator for BGSU football radio broadcasts.
