Notable
Dan Dakich has the third longest tenure among the league's men's coaches as he enters his 10th season. Only Toledo's Stan Joplin and Miami's Charlie Coles have been at their institution's longer (11 years).
Coach Dakich is rated 12th all-time in MAC wins (86) and 13th all-time in overall victories (143). He ranks 14th all-time in MAC games only winning percentage (53.0) and 16th in overall career winning percentage (54.1).
Martin Samarco's 2005-06 MAC-leading total of 3.45 three-point field goals was the highest in the MAC since the 1992-93 season when Akron's Mark Alberts made 4.12 per contest.
Samarco is the league's leading returning scorer after he averaged 18.9 points per game. Since the 1999-2000 season, BGSU is the only MAC school with more than one player who has been the top scorer in the league. Keith McLeod led the loop (22.9) in 2001-02 and John Reimold led the MAC (18.5) in 2004-05.
During the 1990's, six players, including four who remain active, who played in the NBA led the league in scoring (Wally Sczerbiak-1999, Earl Boykins-1998, Antonio Daniels-1997, Bonzi Wells-1996, Gary Trent-1993, 1994 and 1995, and Dave Jamerson-1990).
Since the 2000 season, only two who have led the MAC in scoring have played in the NBA (McLeod-2002, and Tamar Slay-2000).
Three players during Dakich's tenure have led the MAC in three-point field goal percentage including Samarco (2006-45.6), Reimold (2003-42.0), and McLeod (2000-47.7).
Quotes
"As a team we are trying to just get better each day. No one worries about where you are picked because we know that any team can have success at any time."
"As seniors, Matt and I try to be examples to the younger guys on the team."
"As far as preseason predictions go, I told our team last year you can prove them right or prove them wrong."
"I really like being around my team. Coach Stone and I talked at the end of a practice and we wanted to just keep going. I'm sure the kids were tired and wouldn't have liked it, but I just enjoy working with them. It has been that way since school has started."
"I think what the 16-game MAC schedule has allowed us to do is play more non-conference home games and that is a good thing."
"Martin goes at it (practice drills) ridiculously hard. I had to stop practice the other day to show our guys how hard he and a couple of other players were competing."
