Oct. 26, 2006
Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University sophomore forward forward Nate Miller joined the Falcon program last January after spending his first semester of school at UNC-Wilmington.
Recruited out of high school by BGSU, Miller will become eligible for the Falcons on December 16 when BGSU travels to Wright State.
BGSU Coach Dan Dakich On Miller
"Nate is a kid who is really competitive. He has a real good sense of leading on the court and a desire to win. When we put scores up and teams are competing he's about as good as there is. He's a very versatile player, he can pass the basketball and go down and block. He has learned to shoot the basketball better. At the end of the day I have to believe Nate Miller is going to be a very good player here at Bowling Green."
Q and A with Nate Miller
How anxious are you to put on a uniform and get on the court?
"I'm real anxious to get on the court and play with my teammates. I've been here since January and I feel like I can bring a lot to the table for our team as we go into the season."
What does it like to be a redshirt?
"There are advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that you get a lot of time to work on your game. When the team is traveling you can be in the gym by yourself working on your game. The disadvantage is that you can sit around all day and take it as, `I have to practice but I don't get to play.'"
When you were in high school BG was one of your choices, did that help coming back to Ohio and knowing the coaching staff?
"Coach Dakich recruited me pretty hard coming out of high school. Originally I wanted to come to Bowling Green. Bowling Green is a good place and I like being here."
Talk about the bond your team has forged going into this season?
"The team is real close, everyone is together and does the same thing. If it's going to come down to the end of the game, when the team is going to be right there with each other."
How would you describe yourself as a player?
"I'm more of a driver. I like to play around the basket and get my hands on the ball, but I can knock down an open jumper at the same time. I just have to do whatever I can to help the team win."
What are you studying?
"I will probably major in interpersonal communication."
You also played football as well in high school, what position did you play?
"I played wide receiver, running back and free safety. In basketball we were ranked number two in the state with a record of 22-2. I went to the same high school as Brandon Curtis who is on the football team."
What do you try to bring to the team in terms of leadership?
"I've been a leader all of my life. I feel that being with [Martin] Samarco all the time, our team leader, helped me out a lot because I watched what he did. Knowing that him and Matt [Lefeld] are going to be gone next year, someone is going to have to step up and provide that leadership."
What do you like to do in your free time?
"We like to hang out together as a team. Watch football games on Saturday when everyone is together."
