Cleveland, Ohio - Bowling Green State University men's basketball senior guard Martin Samarco has been named 2006-07 Preseason All-MAC by the MAC News Media Association.
"We are excited that Martin has been recognized as one of the top players in the Mid-American Conference," said Dan Dakich. "We have been fortunate to have a number of players who have had outstanding senior seasons and I believe Martin through his work since the time he has arrived at BGSU has put himself in a position to follow that same path."
Samarco, a second-team All-MAC pick last season, is the top returning scorer in the league after averaging 18.9 points. He led the league in three-point field goal percentage (45.7%) and set a BGSU record by making a league-high 100 three-pointers. He also finished second in the MAC in free throw shooting making 85.8% of his charity tosses.
He ranked 30th in the country last season in free throw percentage and 10th nationally in three-point field goal percentage and three-pointers made per game.
Last year, he had 12 efforts where he scored 20 points or more, including a 35-point night against Eastern Michigan.
The Falcons begin practice next week and will play their first exhibition game on November 8 against Capital in Anderson Arena. BGSU will open the regular season on November 11 at 2 p.m. against Denison.
Samarco and Coach Dakich will join the rest of the preseason All-MAC honorees and all of the league's coaches at MAC Media Day on October 24 in Cleveland.
