BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University women's basketball head coach Curt Miller has announced the signing of Lauren Prochaska (Plain City, Ohio) to a National Letter of Intent. Prochaska completes the Falcons' signing class, as eight student-athletes will join the BGSU program for the 2007-08 academic year.
Prochaska, a 5-11 guard, is a senior at Jonathan Alder H.S., and is looking to become the first girl in Ohio history to earn all-state first-team honors in each of her four years. Last season, Prochaska averaged 24.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.3 steals in leading the Pioneers to a 26-2 record and the state championship. She shared Associated Press Division III Player-of-the-Year honors. As a sophomore in 2004-05, Prochaska averaged 24.3 points per game en route to all-state first-team honors. She also earned all-state accolades as a freshman, helping Jonathan Alder to a state semifinal appearance. Like fellow Falcon recruits Liana (Lee) Jennings and Bianca Hooten, Prochaska was ranked as one of the top 265 players in the nation by the All-Star Girls Report. And, the Ohio Girls Basketball Report listed her as the sixth-best overall senior in the state. Prochaska, the all-time leading scorer (boy or girl) at Jonathan Alder, is just 60 points away from reaching the 2,000-point plateau for her career.
"To say we are ecstatic with the addition of Lauren Prochaska is an understatement," said Miller. "She is an outstanding player that can flat-out score. Since I first saw Lauren play as a high-school freshman, I hoped to have the opportunity to coach her at the collegiate level. Her game reminds me of former Oklahoma All-American Stacey Dales, who led OU to the Final Four. Lauren is a huge coup, and we feel that she is the icing on the cake for an outstanding recruiting class."
Prochaska joins a recruiting class that includes Chelsea Albert (Brighton, Mich.), Hooten (North Canton, Ohio), Jennings (Stow, Ohio), Crystal Murdaugh (Dublin, Ohio), Tracy Pontius (Morton, Ill.), Jen Uhl (Wadsworth, Ohio) and Kelly Zuercher (Orrville, Ohio).
"As I said last week (when the first seven signees were announced), we are thrilled with this recruiting class," said Miller. "I believe this entire class can have an impact early in their careers, and this class is loaded with quality young women, on and off the floor. They are very talented in the classroom, and are winners on the court."
The Falcons, the defending back-to-back MAC regular-season and tournament champions, are 1-1 on the season after losing an 85-81 overtime decision at Notre Dame Monday night (Nov. 13). BGSU will head to Orlando, Fla., for this weekend's UCF Golden Knights Tournament. The Brown and Orange will take on Albany on Friday (Nov. 17), and will meet either Fairleigh Dickinson or host UCF the following day. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 24, vs. Temple.
