This is the 15th nationally televised game for the Falcons since the 2003 season. The game aired on ESPN2.
Tonight's paid attendance was 25,616 ensuring that BGSU would exceed the NCAA requirement of averaging 15,000 fans per game for its five recognized home dates this season. For the season, BGSU averaged 15,606 per home date. The final audited paid attendance will take a day or two to confirm and final figures will be submitted to the NCAA in February.
The game was played in miserable conditions with a constant rain mixed with a 20-30 mile per hour wind coming out of the northeast.
Sophomore Erique Dozier sacked Miami QB Mike Kokal and the ball was recovered by the Falcons' Diyral Briggs. It was Dozier's third sack of the season and first career forced fumble. For Briggs it was his fourth career fumble recovery.
Senior Brad Williams had his fourth sack of the season and eighth of his career in the second quarter.
Junior tight end Sean O'Drobinak caught his first pass in four games, a 13-yard gain in the second quarter.
Briggs later added his own sack in the second quarter. It was Briggs seventh sack this season and 11.5 for his career.
Sophomore Anthony Turner needed just two carries and 47 yards late in the second to put BGSU on the scoreboard. He gained 16 on the first carry and a career-long 31-yard effort for the score. He finished with 91 yards rushing.
Sophomore Corey Partridge caught a team-high five passes for 77 yards.
The Falcons shut out an opponent in the first half for the first time this season. Miami was held to 83 yards of offense (14 rushing, 69 receiving). BGSU had 180 yards of total offense at the half with 88 yards coming on the ground and 92 through the air.
BGSU did not have a first down in the third quarter.
At the start of the fourth quarter, sophomore Kenny Lewis blocked a field goal attempt by Miami's Trevor kick to preserve a 7-3 BGSU lead. Lewis later blocked a PAT after a Miami TD.
BGSU drove 73 yards down to the Miami seven yard line in the final seconds but Sean Ellis' field goal attempts from 25 yards was wide to the left.
Senior Terrel White had a team-high 10 tackles. Sophomore John Haneline added nine stops.
Miami now leads the series 39-19-5.
