CANCUN, Mexico - Over the next few days, you may hear a rumor or two that 13 student-athletes have transferred from BGSU to attend the newly-founded University of Moon Palace in Cancun, Mexico. Those rumors are likely not true, but the Falcon women's basketball team certainly is enjoying the trip to Cancun so far.
On Monday (Dec. 18), the team's first scheduled event was breakfast at 9:00 a.m. Most of the players, however, rose long before 9:00 to spend some time on the beach or at the pool, and enjoy some quality hours in the sunshine.
After breakfast, the team had a film session followed by an hour-and-15-minute practice. The travel party then had a few free hours before Monday night's tournament banquet.
On Monday, senior Ali Mann took a few minutes to share her thoughts on the trip so far...
Ali Mann "We flew into the Cancun airport yesterday, where it was a mild 88 degrees. We checked into our resort right behind the Duke players, and headed to our rooms to check out the jacuzzis and the glass-plated showers. We then were off to one of the restaurants to have a little buffet. I'm not sure really what I ate -- a little seafood, a lot of Mexican food -- but it was a new experience, and it was pretty good.
"Finally, we made our way down to the beach. Kate (Achter) did some 'senior-picture' poses for us. We then watched a little film and had a good practice last night, and we did that again this morning.
"This trip is a lot of fun, but we are here first and foremost to play basketball, and we are here to get better as a team. But, it is a fun trip that Coach Miller scheduled for us, and it is nice to be out in the sun a little bit, and be able to relax in this weather while still focusing on basketball. We know we have two very tough games ahead of us, and we know we need to keep working hard and trying to get better as a team."
