OPENING STATEMENT
"It was a game that we had to do a lot of things to stay close early on. Once they got their goals in the second it really put us back on our heels. We didn't handle their skill well. They had a feeding frenzy as the game went on capitalizing on mistakes. They came hard like good offensive teams will and they didn't make a lot of mistakes out there. I thought we needed to play a perfect game tonight and we weren't obviously close to that."
What happened as the game went on?
"The hard part about it for us was the late goal in the first period was a big one, and it really gave us a much needed morale boost based on the way everything had gone. We talked about a real good swing through the lines to start the second period to build off that goal. UNO kind of took that and they started off on a great cycle. Once it got rolling they picked up a lot of loose pucks, and made some real good plays and buried pucks."
You have to be proud of the effort by short bench.
"It was an opportunity for us short handed to do some things. I thought for half of a game we were able to survive some situations. A good offensive team took advantage of a short-handed team and didn't make a lot of mistakes."
You were able to stay close there for a while, what are your thoughts?
"We came out hard in the first period. In the past few games we had been down and haven't been able to get back. Tonight we were able to go get it 1-1. Going into the second period penalties hurt us again and they got on the board with some good transition."
UNO seemed to play really well in the second period what was the difference?
"They had everyone clicking and it was like we would have the puck in their end they would get one bounce and it would be going the other way. You have to give a lot of credit to their guys, they capitalized on their chances."
What can you take away from this weekend? "You try to look at the positives over the course of a season. There is one positive, it is a season and we still have another half to play. We have two more games left before the break and we have to scratch and claw and get something going before we head into break."
