TEAM NOTES
Despite the loss, the Falcons still lead the overall series, 65-
52.
This was the first double-overtime game for Bowling Green since playing at Detroit on November 29, 1995. It was the first home double-overtime tilt since February 1, 1969 when the Falcons hosted the Western Michigan Broncos. The last triple- overtime came in 1992 at Ball State.
This was the second straight home overtime game of the year for the Falcons and the first for the Bobcats. It marked the first back-to-back overtime home games since BGSU defeated Kent State (83-81) on February 2, 1977 and lost to Ohio (69-68) on February 5 of that season.
Bowling Green has now dropped five games in conference play by a combined 13 points (NIU 1, BSU 1, UB 3, Akron 5 in OT, Ohio 3 in 2OT)
Junior Martin Samarco (28), senior Steven Wright (23), junior John Floyd (22) and junior Patrick Phillips (10) combined for 83 of out 90 points scored by BGSU.
The Falcons scored a season-high 90 points (previous high was 85 against Urbana).
The Falcons tied a season-high with 30 made field goals and attempted a season-high 61.
BGSU racked up a season-high 22 assists, nine coming from Wright.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
John Floyd established new career-highs in minutes (44), field
goals made (9) and field goals attempted (14). The Toledo
native scored 20+ points for the second consecutive time and
third time overall.
Patrick Phillips scored in double-digits for the first time in his career (10) and also also set new career-highs for field goals made (4), free throws attempted (6) and tied his high water mark with six rebounds.
Martin Samarco played a career-high 49 minutes and scored the last 14 points of regulation for Bowling Green to help force overtime. The junior college transfer has now scored in double- digits in 19 out of 20 games and added seven three-pointers (career-high) to push his season total to 72, which leads the MAC.
Steven Wright also had a big day as he tied his career-high with 23 points, played a personal best 45 minutes and also established a new career high with nine assists.
Freshman Erik Marschall returned to the BG lineup after missing Thursday's game at Miami due to a left ankle sprain. The New London, Ohio product played 32 minutes and scored two points while pulling down four rebounds and swiping a career-high two steals.
THE GAME
The Bobcats never trailed during regulation.
Ohio led 32-26 at halftime and scored the first seven points of the second half to lead 39-26 with 17:51 to go. OU also led 42-29 with 15:34 left and 48-35 with 13:33 to go.
BGSU cut the lead to 54-48 with 9:27 to go on a layup by Floyd.
A layup by Jerome Tillman with 3:05 to go gave the Bobcats a 69-56 advantage.
Samarco would score 14 straight points for the Falcons in 1:35 while the Bobcats could only muster one free throw as the game was tied 70-70 with 1:22 left in the game.
Ohio missed three shots after grabbing two offensive rebounds and BGSU got the ball back with a chance to win in regulation with 15 seconds to go.
Samarco's 10-foot jumper would not fall and the teams would go into overtime.
In OT, BGSU took its first lead of the game when Samarco drained a triple with 4:28 to go in OT as BG had a 73-72 advantage. That would end a stretch of 17 straight points scored by the leading scorer in the MAC.
The Falcons also led 75-73 on a pair of free throws by Matt Lefeld with 1:53 remaining.
OU's Antonio Chatman hit a pair of charity tosses with 47 seconds left to tie the game at 75-75. Following a BGSU timeout, Wright hit a driving jumper with 18 seconds left as the Falcons led 77-75.
Lefeld was whistled for a foul with seven seconds to go and OU's Mychal Green missed the first free throw attempts. He also missed the second one on purpose and got his own rebound on the right baseline. His five-foot jumper missed but was tapped in by Sonny Troutman with less than three seconds to go to force a second OT.
In the second OT, Floyd would hit a three-pointer to give the Falcons an 80-79 edge with 4:28 to go. BG also would lead 82-81 on a pair of free throws by Lefeld with 2:36 left in the second extra session.
OU's Whitney Davis hit a three-pointer with 2:13 left and a free throw by Johnnie Jackson gave the Bobcats an 85-82 lead with 1:37 to go.
Floyd would score on a layup, was fouled with 1:14 to go and made the free throw to tie the game for the ninth time at 85-85.
The Bobcats would score on a conventional three-point play themselves when Leon Williams grabbed a Davis miss with 38 seconds left and hit a jumper and free throw to give OU an 88-85 lead.
Wright would hit two free throws for the Falcons to make it 88-87 with 32 seconds to go. OU would break the press and score on a quick layup by Davis to make it 90-87.
Samarco would come down and drain a triple to tie the game at 90-90 with 18 seconds left.
Chatman was fouled by Moten almost immediately and hit one of two free throws with 16 seconds left.
BGSU had a chance to win the game but Perrick Robinson's layup did not go and Jackson would grab the rebound for OU and hit two free throws with 1.3 seconds to make the final margin, 93-90.
