BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team has added former major-leaguer Chris Hoiles to the coaching staff this week. Hoiles, a volunteer assistant coach for the Falcons in 2002-2004, will reassume that role for the 2007 season after coaching at his alma mater Eastern Michigan for the past two seasons.
Hoiles was an All-MAC performer for the Eagles and lettered from 1984-86. He was drafted in the 19th round by the Detroit Tigers in 1986 and traded to the Baltimore Orioles in 1988, where he made his major league debut for the Orioles in 1989. Hoiles was a catcher for 10 seasons in Baltimore and was voted Most Valuable Oriole in 1993 after batting .310 with 29 homers and 82 RBIs. He was born in Bowling Green, Ohio.
"His experience at both the college and professional levels is a tremendous advantage for us," said BGSU Head Coach Danny Schmitz. "We're happy to have Chris rejoin the Falcon family."
