BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior Lindsay Carter and junior Janie Babich are the co-captains of the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team for 2006. The Falcons of head coach Andy Richards opened preseason camp last week, and will play an exhibition game at Dayton on Friday evening (Aug. 18).
The captains are selected by the BGSU coaching staff, in tandem with the returning players.
"I am pleased with the selection of Lindsay and Janie as our team captains for 2006," said Richards. "They are both quality players, and they are different, personality-wise. We have a good balance and a lot of experience there."

Carter enters the 2006 season as BGSU's active career scoring leader, with 18 points. She has six career goals and six assists, and has been a MAC Player of the Week on two occasions.
"Lindsay is more of a leader by example," said Richards. "She is very fit, very committed and very coachable. Lindsay may not be the person who stands up and makes long speeches, but she is going to be a great person to follow."
Babich has been a part of the BGSU program for two seasons, with the Falcons winning one league regular-season and two conference tourney crowns during that time. She made eight starts as a freshman, then moved into the lineup full-time last season, starting 22 of the Falcons' 23 contests.
Babich helped solidify a BGSU defense that posted a school-record nine shutouts last year, including three in a row during the Falcons' MAC Tournament title run. BG ended the home schedule with eight consecutive shutouts at Cochrane Field, having not allowed a goal in the last 814:44 at home.
"Janie is perhaps going to be a little bit more vocal," said Richards. "Her dad is a football coach (Bob Babich, former BGSU assistant who is currently assistant head coach of the NFL's Chicago Bears), she comes from a coaching background and she understands some of the intricacies of being in a program and some of the hardships you have to go through.
"Janie will also lead by her play, but I think she will be much more of a vocal leader. Lindsay may not speak as much, but when she does speak, people listen to her because they respect her. So, as I said, we have a good balance. Both Janie and Lindsay have played a lot of games, they've both been in those pressure situations, and that can only help in our quest to defend our titles."
The Falcons begin the 2006 regular season with a trip to Milwaukee, Wis., for the Milwaukee Cup. BGSU will face a pair of 2005 NCAA Tournament participants on their respective home fields, taking on Marquette on Friday, August 25, before meeting Wisconsin-Milwaukee two days later. Marquette is ranked 16th in the nation in the Soccer Buzz preseason poll.
